Podz is not as good as Stuzle and plays a support type game. So Podz only stands out on a poop team/line if he pulls off a solo bull run.
- NuckUp

No, he definitely isn't. I just expected a few dominant shifts and more leadership so far based on the hype.

Naw man, here's the inverse, look at Stutzle. Kid stands out every time he's on the ice. Even in the Canada game. His entire team was pooched and he still looked like a man among boys. That's leadership and presence.

Pods shouldn't need as much support as you suggest to make a statement in this tournament. If his team is so bad, he should be that much more noticeable. He isn't.

3oa is to be expected. 2oa is doing squat.

Is this by the sheer numbers of Canadians drafted, by a percentage or just Nighthawk rambling?

- Reubenkincade

None of the above.

Sticking to proportional.

It’s not a serious question because you are a troll. Not a particularly good one, but a troll none the less. But to amuse you here’s a few:

Kevin Bieksa (5th round)
Matt Cooke (6th round)
Jannik Hansen (9th round)
Brent Sopel (6th round)
Scott Walker (5th round)
Doug Lidster (7th round)
Patrik Sundstrom (9th round)
Adrian Aucoin (5th round)
Igor Larionov (11th round)
Chris Tanev (undrafted)
Alex Burrows (undrafted)
Donald Brashear (undrafted)
Rick Rypien (undrafted)

And...
Pavel Bure (6th round)

On pure registration numbers in Canada competition is better. It doesn't translate into the NHL’s best players proportionally.

With 20 1sts Canada should dominate in every way & blow out everyone. They don’t. Gems or diamonds in the rough on other countries rosters always fall come draft time. More busts are drafted Canadians.

- Nighthawk

I just don't see Podz pushing many Canadians down their depth. Maybe in the bottom 6. I see Canada hypothetically playing Podz to his strength and that would be a bottom 6 role especially in a lead. I think Canada is covered better in their top 6 without Podz.

A little off topic, but what's the over under on Austrian shots this game? 1 so far in half of a game.

Edit: 2 now.

Give him 20 1st round Russians instead of this blah bunch. All that matters to me is what translates into the NHL. How many 1sts from Canada have much of a future?

I think expecting Pods to dazzle is like expecting Tanev to score 15 goals in a year. It is not what they do.

In this tournament I have not seen anyone who stands out like a Matthews or an Ovechkin. There will probably be three players who will rise to the top like a Barzal . The ones that are playing in this tournament that do make the NHL will mostly be complementary players like Pod or a Patrick

Best prospects...

I wonder if this thought process should be applied to JV even though he was picked four spots ahead of Pod?

An example of a team in a bad position playing a prospect too soon. Pod will be better off when he leaves Russia & gets his feet wet here. He has to earn his TOI still.

Rangers are laughing big time. Don't expect anymore high profile Canadians to be lent out to the WJC going forward especially in the flat cap NHL.

Does Pod make the team right away or does he spend a season in AHL?

Podkolzin was (& still is) a terrible pick at 10OA. Watching the fanbase try to convince themselves that he’s a beastly future star is so nauseating... But have at ‘er

I was listening to TSN earlier when I drove the wife and they had an old interview with Gillis when the Sedins retired week.

He talked about he had made a trade with Kesler (and Kesler confirmed that week that he was traded) . He refused to give the names involved but both confirmed the trade happened but got cancelled. Does anyone know who the players involved were?

- VANTEL

Don't quote me here but didn't MG have a deal in place for Sutter that involved Kesler going to the Pens? Thought that one was in place and was nixed...

Then the player we got for Kesler (Bonino) was moved to PIT anyways for Sutter?lol

Jury is out for me. Not saying he was terrible. Once Zegras went 9th I wanted a trade down.
