I ma sure we will know soon via a team-related statement, but " an illness" make me think loads of things from lung issues, to measles /mononucleosis and concussion-related.

I don't guess it is something w/o concern for the dressing room, or the team would let it go.

It is so odd when the teams get out t-twiitered by the Athletic when a simple announcement early puts the news upfront.

I am sure that Bowman will have to have all responses to the Soda signing, allowing the begging of Dach & agent to the U-20 answers in place first.

I would guess that it is not concussion related, I think that would be reported as "injury" instead of "illness". Maybe the most logical explanation is Covid related. If he just found out, quarantine would be 10-14 days which would take him almost to opening day. I would think they want him to get in some conditioning before he jumps into a game.

Kind of weird they let Dach go. Also, with the Nylander thing - wouldn't that be operated on right after the season? I know a lot of surgeons like to treat knees and hips conservatively but it seems like athletes will get that cleaned up even if its minor and a not professional athlete can probably live with it. Not that I care that he's missing the season I just question those kinds of things.

The Toews thing is just icing on the cake, especially since he didn't slap hands with his coach after the playoffs last year.

All the Chicago sports orgs this year seem to be having a contest about who is the worst run.

Yea just heard Ricketts is a billion dollars in debt, buying up all the property around Wrigley Field. Damn

This is a real test of the Hawks depth. Hopefully, Toews comes back soon. Also, this is a test for coach Colliton. How will he slot these guys on lines and put them in a position to succeed ? Soderberg and the two other Swedes would make up an ideal third line. Suter and Kurashev can play center too. The only line that should not be effected much is the fourth line.

Toews to miss the start of the season with an illness? WTF! That's more than 2 weeks away. What kind of illness lasts more than a couple weeks ... I suppose there's a long list but none of them good. Year 2020 isn't done with us yet.

Pierre McGuire said on Christmas Eve on MTL radio that he heard Toews will be out for 4-6 months after a workout injury.

It’s Pierre so who knows but this could potentially be real bad.

Can Bowman just fire himself already? This guy is a joke. He is not a hockey guy. His daddy got him his job. He gets ripped off on the majority of his trades. He signs guys to unnecessary high paid, long term, no movement contracts. His selection of a new coach is suspect to say the least, The draft picks are due to the scouts not him. And now he sends their biggest asset to play in a junior tournament where the risk well out-weighed the reward. Great job Stan. Once again the paying customers get ripped off due to his stupid decision making. Happy 2021 Hawk fans !!

Really kind of an assinine take on things. You don't have to like him, or agreed with anything he has done. The injury to Dach, and now Toews being out have NOTHING to do with Bowman. He didn't "send" Dach to play in a Jr. tournament, Dach was asked and wanted to play and Bowman allowed him to go. Many will tell you that the reward of playing in the world jrs far outweighed the risk. Yeah it sucks, he got hurt on a fluke accident.

That injury could have happened in a practice, a scrimmage or a workout. It's unfortunate but blaming the Hawks for letting him go is just wrong. Besides, if the kid wanted to play and the Hawks prevented it, what message does it send when it comes time to negotiate contracts and extensions, that you are nothing but an asset, not a person with desires. That what you want doesn't matter to the organization if we get no benefit?

Lastly, what paying customers? The building is empty and will remain so for a while.

So no matter how long the recovery is, they cannot get the cap space until we begin the season, right?

Is there an opportunity to eat some other teams bad retired IR contracts too?

Just dont look at the 2021 Draft as a quick solution...Owen power is a all that but all that also includes needing time to get there is many passes...the gift is there, the head is there, the feet are marvelous for such a large human...but he needs reps, and I am not sure he is a first rounder who benefits form a 18 yr NHL arrival.

A forward might have a better chance to play sooner, but I am not reaching if I am selecting very high...

With the Nylander, Dach and now Toews season ending injuries, it allows the Hawks to get some youngsters extended looks. In the long run, it could be very beneficial for the team. Nobody imagined going in to the season without Dach and Toews. Plan B time...

Do we go get Tuch now?

I didn't say anything about Toews. The Blackhawks are a billion dollar entity with their assets being the players. If you knew Dach would have broken his wrist before he went off to play in the junior tournament, would you have sent him? Not worth the risk in my book. As far as paying customers. will they give me a refund for my tickets the last 5 years of Bowmans decisions?

No, we have had tickets in our family for over 30 years. This was going to be the first year we didnt renew. I am sick of Bowman's ineptitude.

I had a torn meniscus, they said we will scope it, 3 days and you will be good to go. Woke up, handed me crutches and said congratulations, we found a bunch of cartilage we needed to clean up, your cast will come off in 6-8 weeks.

Then wouldn't it have been reported as injury rather than illness? All up in the air until a more definitive report.

She could probably make the Rockford team I'm not in a hurry to see the guys there, but my wife's had a torn meniscus for five years nothing was done and she still pushes the vacuum cleaner.

We'll see after Power and the other draft eligible players play their seasons - but if the Hawks have a choice between a forward or a d-man that projects to be a legitimate #1 d-man - I sure hope they select the d-man.

What about the 3 other d-men projected to be taken in the top-10 - aren't a couple of them potential #1 d-men too?

Might it be a ploy for cap space having the operation so that he misses the season on LTIR?

Please NO. He's a nice player but he's not good enough offensively to be a top-6 player and $4.75M for 6 more years is too much / too long for a 3rd line winger.
