Would be nuts to sign Casey unless it's for one year and a cheap deal. Really time for the Isles to have a cheap 4th line.

They'd probably still write about him even if he goes to the Europe or the KHL:

"Yesterday Josh Ho Sang had a goal and an assist for the Nürnberg Ice Tigers. That brings his point total to 4 points in 20 games. When asked about his lack of offensive production Ho Sang said "I'd have more points if the goalies weren't so racist." ..."

Lamoriello said no plans as of now to bring in any other players on a PTO. "Things can change, but this is the group for now." #Isles will have 21 forwards, 12 defensemen, four goalies at camp.

Wait they are signed before the JB hits LTIR? How’s that possible?

Ok so this is from an Athletic article by Staple dated 12/21/20. He clearly states that Barzal can be signed before the season starts and should be. There’s no reason that the deal had to wait for the season to start.

“Will we see new contracts for Mathew Barzal and a few others soon?

Maybe even by the time you finish reading this. Setting the calendar for a new season means setting the deadline clock for Barzal’s new deal. It doesn’t appear there’s been much to haggle over these last few weeks, since no other team has cap room or the desire to attempt an offer sheet. Plus, Lamoriello’s priorities have been to find cap space by trading Toews and seeing Boychuk unofficially retire and to lock up Ryan Pulock to a short-term deal. Barzal, who had no arbitration rights, had to wait his turn. And now it’s come.

There’s certainly a chance Barzal could hold out, but it seems very unlikely. Players need to be on the Island to begin quarantining and pre-camp COVID-19 testing in a matter of weeks, so if Barzal chooses to stay away, even a few days’ delay in signing a deal could mean missing the start of the regular season. All signs point to a short-term deal — two or three years — with a cap hit between $6-7 million.”

You were wrong but let’s leave it there.
