Barry Rozner wrote a very good article in Daily Herald about the loss of Toews. One of the things he said was that he is one of those guys you don't miss until he is not there. So Hawks will not replace his leadership and respect of his team mates. This will have to be a collective effort. THEO: Does anybody know how long Toews has felt like this ? If it's been for awhile, that might explain the off season aquisitions of Janmark, Wallmark and now Soderberg. Signing players that play 200 ft game and compete. Notice how the Hawks have so many centers / wingers on the team
Make you wonder if they knew awhile ago and tried to stock up on players that can take draws, compete and are defensively responsible. The more I think about this, you might expect two guys on several lines that can take draws .... example on Strome line, you might see Janmark, who has played center and can take draws. Not a bad thing actually to do. Also, I read that Jack Raslovic of Jets, wants to be traded
He's 23, finished his entry level contract, oozes offensive instincts, and wants an elevated role ... he plays wing but wants to be play center. Jets want a defensemen for him. Could Hawks try to acquire him for say DeHann ? Do the Jets have cap space for him ? First sign Strome of course - please but getting Raslovic would give Hawks another young player with offensive skills, some NHL experience and the "want to" for more responsibilities. What are your thoughts ??? - chuckdahammer
I don't think the jets want to trade a 23 year old forward with Roslovic's potential for a 29 year old often injured dman. They'd maybe do it for Beaudin or Carlsson |

Troy Murray was on NHL Radio this morning and said Strome will be signed shortly. End of statement and no other comment.
And there will be some surprising names on the waiver wire before the season gets underway. - RickJ
Good call Rick. Waiver wire could be more appealing this year and maybe the Hawks snag a player there if they think they need more backup after these injuries. |

To answer your question, my gut is that Hawks management has known about Toews' condition for some time. Just not sure how long ago but it wasn't sudden for them either.
That isn't to say the signings of all three of Janmark, Wallmark, and Soderberg was due to what they knew about Toews. Possibly for Soderberg but guessing not for the other two.
The Hawks wanted to amp up their work ethic and competitiveness. Janmark and Wallmark fit the bill. Zadorov, too (via trade, not signing). And now Soderberg, of course. |

On Roslovic, perhaps the Hawks kick the tires on him. I could also see Mittelstadt and Poehling being looked at as well. |

Once Roslovic saw the Jets re-acquire Stastny he knew there was not much playing time in an offensive role for him, especially with Maurice behind the bench. The Jets will have plenty of offers if he's willing to sign for around $2M for a couple of years. The Hawks would have to give something to get, probably a young defenceman.
And who knows what the Player Development Dept's. evaluation is of Roslovic. |

You probably would have to take a Matthieu Perrault along with it. The Jets are right against the cap, even with them putting Bryan Little on LTIR.

Just a guess on my part - the Jets would be asking for Beaudin since he has a bunch of time left on his ELC. I wouldnt do that deal one for one. I think Beaudin is going to impress in camp and push hard for some playing time on the big team.

Winnipeg has a bunch of prospects on defense, they are looking for immediate help on defense, preferably top 4

Raslovic getting a lot of mentions here. I don't recall much about his style of play. How is his skating and is he good defensively? - EbonyRaptor
He is doing well as a checking line centre but he is asking for a trade b/c he was not given the opportunity to fill the 2nd line centre role when they re-acquired Stastny.
He is a strong wall player with decent skill.
He wants a chance to play in the top six.

Now is not the time to make any panic moves. Stay the course. Pissing away D prospect for middling guys like Roslovic is foolhardy. Roslovic's ceiling is middle 6 at best. More 3C than anything. |

Generally, if we all like a trade it has less chance with the other sides GM than McConnell passing $2000 stimulus checks. |

Good point. They would want immediate help. Let's not forget last year, they lost Buff, Trouba, and Chariot .... three starters the previous year. Hawks do have log jam on defense too |

His usage doesn't suggest checking line center. Neither do some of his metrics. |

Remember - back in the old pre-COVID olden days - 2016-17 and 2017-18 - when Toews had a couple of down years and just didn’t look at all like he played before that - could today’s issues be some kind of reoccurrence of whatever ailed him then? |

I agree but was thinking stop gap....Roslovic's what you could see as a space holders, but THERE may be upside, if it gets through the expansion draft...
I agree, now is not the time to be trading picks, especially when you see the World Junior players (most NOT READY FOR PRIMETIME) ll drafted already not not ours...we need to have lots of picks with lots of chances to get it correct.
I agree with you,kinda

Its a throwaway year. Find out what you got. The Hawks already have a couple of Roslovic types. Take your lumps. Move guys like Soderberg, Wallmark, Janmark at the TDL for whatever picks you can get. Carpenter, too.
Regarding upside. He put up 29 points playing 15 minutes a game last season. Realistically, I see his upside as maybe a 40 point guy. Maybe some PP points to get there but he isn't a guy I would go out of my way to acquire. |
