Carol Schram: Canucks' camp set to open Sunday, plus AHL and World Jrs updates Just a couple more sleeps until the Vancouver Canucks officially open their 2020-21 training camp with Media Day on Sunday. Also, the World Junior Championship is heating up with both Vasily Podkolzin and Arvid Costmar making big impressions for their respective countries.

Happy New Year Carol and thanks.

That is too bad about Leivo . I think Canucks missed out on a borderline second line player with hurt feelings. You can never have too many of those.

@Nighthawk

Next years rosters , many teams will be very active on non game days jumping back and forth from a 23 man roster to a 20 man roster. The daily waiver wire should be quite active .

A heavy cap strapped team like the Bolts could be putting a player like Maroon or Schenn on waivers every other day. It should be a lot of fun for armchair GMs to jockey .

Yes very active indeed. Going with 26 players is pretty risky stuff. Many teams will be hawking the waiver wire😜

I imagine you will see guys like Tyler Johnson and maybe Yanni Gourde on there quite often and a team may say we will go with one of them . There could be some interesting names on there.

I am sure Canucks will have Sven and Loui on there and no one will take them but it could be a chance to dangle Roussel if Hawryluk is the annoyance he is made out to be.

Be nice if we could lose 1-2 vets with 2yrs left. I think Roussel will bounce back.

I find the league, mainly Bettman, is such a hypocrite. They say we will not tolerate cap circumvention, put in a recapture penalty, then they allow circumvention by changing the rules to allow only 20 players on the roster.
Of course there is the circumvention through the buying of ltir contracts.
This is just bushleague at its finest.

Calgary and Montreal are better than Van.

Tanev's a 2nd pair D in Cgy, Leivo a 4th liner not 2nd.

Toffoli a 3rd liner in Mtl but 1st liner in Van.

I think a 20 man roster has been allowed for years but no one except the flames have used it. The only reason it will come into play now is because of the extra men allowed on the taxi squad.

Thanks Carol. Happy New Year to you and everybody here.

I had a good time this year playing DJ myself. Spinning some new vinyl I got for Christmas and some classic stuff that will never leave my collection.

Rang in the New Year with the Ziggy Stardust remaster I told my Daughter I wanted Santa to get me. Just an awesome way to say goodbye to such a shit year.

Teams during the regular season use around 30 players. Dal and TB during the playoffs used 24 players. With 56 games in 116 days. Got a feeling, teams are going to want larger rosters.

1st 3 weeks will definitely see max rosters til the AHL starts. Only teams in a cap crunch might risk it.

The thing that pisses me off with TB is today they are well over the 10% allowable exceedance . The may be compliant when they put the players on LTIR but today they have bent the rules and should face a similar recapture penalty.

I want to see how many AHL teams opt out. Comets are no where near roster ready and with the restrictions at the border I would not be surprised to see them say See Ya Next Year.

Teams that are worried about the cap will probably leave some a spot or two on the taxi squad, so they can paper players up and down.

Players better be getting working towards playing over seas then. Most of those season's end in 4 months

Ben Birnell thinks OJ has the highest potential out of all the AHL defenders right now

I agree with that. He's well rounded compared to the rest. As long as he stays healthy I expect him to make significant progress in the NHL over the next couple of seasons.

Right back at you Reuby you little maggot. A midget and stupid as (frank). Tough combination.

Back to hockey, I can’t recall being this excited for training camp. We need some Canucks to get through what should be a tough few months
