Owning a gun in America is seen as birth right too. But more people die from gun deaths because of it. Its the same for FOS. I'm not saying we shouldn't have debate around these issues, just that there's a line where it becomes dangerous, and therefor its up to public officials to protect the public.

I just feel the virus is a physical danger, speech is just ideas and there should be no restriction on ideas at all, because people have the freedom to accept them or not. If some person commits violence due to an idea, arrest them for violence. I'm a libertarian on speech

I do find that most people who espouse libertarian views do so from a position of some kind of privilege. "I'm ok, don't tax me".

I'm libertarian socially but not fiscally. I like the Scandinavian model on economics.

Yep, Trump was openly musing about punishing SNL of all things for mean skits. He would easily define criticism of HIM as 'hate speech'. Exactly why all speech should always be allowed, because a government comes along who decides this speech over here that I don't like is now labeled as harmful, because I said so.

Wait? The Nazis were anti hate speech and the Allies were pro hate speech? The distinction between what laws a fascist government put in place top control the population and the hate speech Hitler used to incite racial violence against the Jews are entirely different.

Nobody is talking about widespread limits on freedom of speech. Hate speech laws need to be very specifically focused to address a very specific problem. Canada's courts have reviewed those laws to see if they unnecessarily infringe our rights. They don't.
