The Blackhawks FINALLY have their training camp roster out.
Looks like:
* Seabrook and Barratt are "unfit to participate".
* Soderberg is having immigration issues.
* Zach Smith is supposedly healthy but is not on the training camp roster. Not a good sign for him but appreciate the Hawks including young players over him. Great guy, but shouldn't be skating ahead of a guy like Brandon Hagel. My guess is he's Rockford-bound.

I remember when Zach Smith was going to be the savior of our bottom 6

Look like Cam Morrison made it in place of Hakkarainen (even though Hakk is under contract), otherwise, Theo was pretty spot on. |

I think whatever cap space the Hawks have at the trade deadline is moot, cause I do not see the Hawks spending the actual cash to take on a dead contract. - LAHawk
I don't disagree with you here. Also, LTIR confuses the poop out of me, so I could easily be wrong about the situation if Toews comes back before the end of the season. |

Move Storme + DeBrincat maybe eat some salary for Dubois. Come on Stan stick your toe in the water.

RickJ you are right on the money. That other guy comparing Strome to Dubois or Barzal is off his rocker. Happy New Year to all Hawk fans as we prepare for what I can see on paper a classic battle with the Wings for the prestigious toilet bowl trophy. It will be a miracle for this roster to compete with any of the established teams. The team is going to miss Toews, Dach, and Saad the most. No proven goaltender, Corey will not be here to keep this team in the game, no center ice man as Strome will not be able to match up with other teams top two centers. I sure hope I am wrong but the outcome is pretty much written in stone. Great blog Theo, top three on HB and maybe number one, appreciate the excellent coverage. |

Presumably, Soderberg would clear up his immigration issues relatively quickly: why wouldn't he be on the roster? Who is the "placeholder" for him - Altabarmakian?
Not a good sign for Seabrook, assuming his "unfitness" is due to his surgeries. |

Dubois did not play poorly in the playoffs. He was excellent against the Leafs and the BJ's were beaten in the next round by the eventual Cup champs. He led all forwards in average time on ice and # of shifts in that series. Only their big 3 D men saw the ice more than Dubois vs Tampa.
You are statistically delusional trying to compare Strome favourably to Dubois or Barzal. Watch the games is my suggestion. - RickJ
If anything, Torts harassed him to the point where the only fire lit under him was a long term urge to get away from Torterella.
Yeah, Strome is nowhere near their already reached levels of consistency/ achievement.

If JK ever traded Dubois for these two I am sure he would be canned. You can not trade a third liner and a midget for a stud 200 foot players like Dubois. I actually love the midget but the only way he survives is on a good team like TB with lots of offensive players. He is now in a position where him, Strome and Kane need to be the go to guys. Kane and Kubalik fit the bill but the other two are talented but soft. Hopefully they have both prove me wrong, honestly they have lots to prove. Proving it on a depleted roster like this will be very difficult. I do see potential in the pp but teams will just stay out of the box as a game plan as the only way they lose if the pp bites them. Bring on the 13th.

No one did. People that were pissy about trading Anisimov away like to say that though. |

If the Dubois rumors are true I am willing to bet your are totally correct. Torts lit a fire under Dubois and the kid responded. If this is the reason Dubois wants out that is not a good omen. Dubois should realize that Torts did him a favor. In about 20 years Dubois will likely change his opinion of Torts and say that he can't thank the man enough for advancing his career. Young people today do not like to be pushed by parents, bosses, etc but one day when they grow up they will get it. It is like they know everything at age 20 and know nothing at age 65, lol. |

He wears #15 a lot in international play. 51 is just his number reversed |

All I'm saying is for a guy who supposedly is an iceberg is already putting up similar stats to them and is better at the dot and not turning the puck over. If he improves his skating, which something a player can do, he's going to be really good. |

Your right about JK’s job loss, but if another team ends up with Dubois it would be a shame. Dach and Dubois up the middle would be fun to watch moving forward. Two young talented centers. I believe it’s the right fit, just my thought. Unfortunately we just don’t know what will happen with Toews this year or next. |

Very early on, but the lines and pairings will shape up sooner than most years.
It appears Colliton might be leaning towards Keith-Murphy, de Haan-Mitchell, Zadorov-Boqvist on the backend.
Who knows what's going on with Seabrook, but he or Carlsson should be the 7th D that's rotated in to these pairings.

I watch 40-50 games a week, all teams pretty much. I try to never miss a Hawks, FLyers, Blues, Vegas, Jackets or Hawks games. I am retired and have a very understanding wife, lol. The fact is I live for the game as a former player and I just do the eye test on players and I am usually correct. Example Kubalik to me is like a young Patrick Sharp, I predicted 25-35 goals before he had 5 last year. Strome just seems to lack that game on war type of compete level. His skill is undeniable but he needs a better engine or mental approach. He will certainly get a great opportunity to show what he can do centering Kane and Debrincat I would suspect. Toews will be a huge loss and hopefully he recovers quickly. |

... AAANDDD looks like Colliton might go nuclear up front with DeBrincat-Strome-Kane as line 1. Followed by a bunch of bottom 6ers. Not the route I would go, but guess that's why I'm not an NHL coach.

Or - as they apparently have been discussing - going with a game-day roster of 11+7.

Very possible. Hopefully not though, I do despise the 11 + 7. |
