Cpt loves it!
- nyisles7
I think the question is who does? I believe even you said anything more then two years is stupid. If two years is stupid four is (frank)ing moronic. The guy had a good playoffs I’ll say that but has been pretty much useless in every sense for the last two years minus that. Now we have him for four? |

No one should. The cap isn't going up anytime soon. It makes no sense to give Martin that contract. $1.5 for even one year is too much. |

Waste of cap over a way too long term for the player that Martin is now. Great guy, great islander, character guy, but sometimes numbers and common sense needs to supersede these attributes. He needed to turn the page with Martin imo. Not only did we not do that but we committed to another four years. |

I agree I like Martin and he has been a very good Isles but 4 years? What is the point of Ross then? Isles lost to Tampa and the Canes because the offense is not good enough. How does this help get the Isles close the gap? |

Can’t wait to watch how half of this thread talks themselves into believing this is somehow a good or fair contract when if the Rangers signed him for this money and term they would’ve been on your thread ragging about. |

If true, it’s more than I would like in $$$ and term. This coming from a MM fan.
Again if true and also would like to know if it’s a 1 way or 2 way deal and all the particulars, not believing this. If true Lou’s taking care of one of his soldiers. |

After the Leo and Hickey deals I can believe it. Cannot argue with Lou's success and the Isles success the last 2 years some of Lou's deals are beyond head scratchers. |

Take the successful results and leave it at that
The team he put together worked. I’m over the deals Lou signed two summers ago. I think that discussion has been best to death on here.
That said, I don’t like the deal if true as stated by Friedman.

I love the results but I worry other teams are improving and Isles cannot live on the last two years and the Isles need enough Cap room to add that other offensive players. I would love to forget the past deals but it still effects the team now. |

Matt Martin 4 years. LOL - RogerRoeper
Matt Martin scored 5 goals in the playoffs last year. That is 3 more than anyone on the leafs scored ... and he did it on their ice. |

um.. me. if it wasn't for 4 years it would have been for more $$. Getting MM for $1.5 a year is great. Didn't want to see him in another uniform again.. happy he will be an Islander for the rest of his career.

Come on NI 4 years for MM is a bad move. Barzal is not even signed yet and Martin gets 4 years? I thought the whole idea of looking up Ross was to be a MM replacement. Ross will retire before MM's deal is done. |

I wanted Martin, but anything more than 2 years at just under a mill seems excessive. |

Seems excessive? 2 years would have been excessive. Isles do not have that special wing but we have Ross and Martin. |

I think 2 years would be fine. Especially with the shortened season this year, not as much wear and tear. - mdw7413
Lou has a thing for 4 years. Maybe it's his favorite number? Even Boomer at 4 years would be forget my son-in-law on the Rangers. |

Our 4th line is one of our biggest advantages.. they can put those guys out there against any line and often put them out to get the team going after giving up a goal. Any player in NHL making $1.5 is not a big deal to me... it's like when everyone went nuts when we signed Mayfield for 1.45 .. Leo is an issue b/c he makes $3 mill a year.
