He's never retiring. He can't make that kind of money in any capacity other than as a 4th liner who finishes his checks long after the puck has left the zone.
I must admit, the length of that contract leaves me speechless. On the other hand, Lou has made me a believer, and I am still enjoying the Isles' first deep playoff run in more than a quarter century. I'm thinking Lou has maybe inserted some sort of "out" clause in the contract, so that, if necessary, MM gets jettisoned to Robidas Island or front office retirement like a certain back-up goalie who shall remain nameless.

This board feels like we just jumped 3-4 years back in time- knee-jerk reacting to one of Garth’s signings.
The $$$ MM got isnt an such a big issue. For how he plays, he’s worth $1.5. Agreed, the term is 2 yrs too long but MM is an Islander lifer on & off the ice. LI is his home now and he will prob end up working for the team when he retires. Im guessing he wont play all 4 years and the buyout will be easy with little penalty. In 2 years, the cap wont mean crap. Things will recover and the real “bad contracts” will be off the books, tho fans will then have Bailey, Eberle & Lee’s contracts to cry about.
I’ll be more upset if Khunackle gets more games/icetime than Wahlstrom/Bellows or even Koivula or if Hickey somehow re-emerges as our regular #6 dman.
These things arent likely as they were 3-4 years ago. Seattle is also allowed to start “making deals” in regard to the expansion draft in February(when they complete payment for franchise fee) so I’m feeling that Lou will resolve our long term cap issues before 21-22 season and not lose
any “untouchable” players.
We have more to look forward to than we have in the last 20+ years and we have one of the top 3 coaches in the game. (Thats being kind to the other 30 head coaches)
All I can think about is kicking some Ranger ass next Thursday & Saturday and watching all the butt-hurt rag fans in the worlds smelliest arena go home dejected.
