A: In all likelihood, Josh Morrissey is a #3 defenceman. Last season was the first time he was left to run his own pairing, and he fell off hard, especially early on. While I do think he will rebound, I doubt he’ll return to 17-18 form.
I think Morrissey is good, and can live up to his contract, but not acknowledging that he was average at best last season makes me question whether or not you’ve been paying attention.

B: He is not the #1 defenceman on the Jets at this moment in time. DeMelo is, with a possible Heinola crowning coming up shortly.

C: He was visibly worse, and making worse decisions, across the entirety of last season. We also have the ability to tell if it’s his play, or the performance of his teammates, that was dragging his numbers down. It was mostly Morrissey himself.

I'm guessing that Rexy's whole new 2021 mantra regarding less negative statements and more positive attitude toward the Jets is out the window after only a few days.

Why would we ever do that. Let’s spend like 6mil for two fringe guys and a 3rd liner

Better then the $9.3M being spent on three fringe 4th liners.

I am sure glad a few of you guys on here are not the GM of the Jets. Josh Morrissey is a perennial All-Star Defenseman or close to it. He will surely be on the next Team Canada . Furthermore, he loves being in Winnipeg and signed an 8 year favorable contract. He is the Jets #1 Defenseman on a team that has lost several key Dmen over the past year. He basically had to babysit the other Dmen most of the season.....and you guys want to trade him because he didn't have some career type year.

Pure insanity

Morrissey only gets a pass for last season because he unexpectedly was made the leader of the defense with Buff not showing up, and in my opinion was trying to do too much which led to some poor play.
However if he plays the same again this year, the Jets should absolutely be questioning keeping his contract on the team especially with having to pay Pionk in the offseason.

Realism. I’m saying he’ll bounce back, but has already had a crazy good, unsustainable season.

Toninato is a pretty decent 4th liner. Also cheap. Dano is overqualified.

Erik Karlsson and Logan Couture are long term noose deals for players that were worth it at the time of signing.

Blake Wheeler and Bryan Little are long term noose deals for players that were not worth it at the time of signing.

Although I’m not particularly fond of either at the moment, seeing as both men looked their teams’ problems hard in the face (goaltending in San Jose, defence in Winnipeg), and chose to make them worse.

One team was 17 points ahead of the other and has better young talent than the other. Chevy is way ahead of Dug.

Those teams were in way different situations though, not a fair comparison at all.

They were, coincidentally, opposites.

San Jose performed very well as a team, but had horrendous goaltending. League average goaltending gets them a safe playoff spot.

Winnipeg performed nearly Detroit level bad as a team, but had unbelievable goaltending. League average goaltending gets them a top 3 pick.

I am rolling my eyes. Helly made a lot of saves, good enough for vezina. The part you are not understanding is that saves were not only about Helly. The compete level of the defenders was consistent resulted in more contested shots. They were contested by the collapse to the slot for less clean shots, by keeping active sticks reducing quality of passes, tight checking that impairs the accuracy and velocity of shots. Fancy stats don’t measure that stuff and settles for location of the shooter, where the pass was from and starting to measure velocity more with the new pucks.

My point is that great goaltending goes hand in hand with team play. Trotz, Bowman, Hitchcock, Carlyle and Maurice among others have gotten goaltending that exceeds the expectations of the individual goalies. Not a coincidence, it is a result of team play.

That said I wouldn’t trade hellebuyck for anyone as the chemistry works.

I love it. The Jets were giving up the most high danger chances in the NHL, but hold on they weren't one timers, thanks to our defense according to 2.0. Making it easy for Hellebuyck I guess.

Well, we we’re out-shot, out-chanced, and out-scored on a regular basis.
We also allowed the most high danger chances against. Meaning right in front the net. Meaning the middling prevention of cross-seam passes (which was the actual, in-house Jets brag) doesn’t matter, because the shots are coming from point blank range anyway.
Yaaaaay, Sbisa is between the two top line forwards with direct lanes to the net. Awesome news, Hellebuyck will be thrilled.

As for the rest... Trotz has never had any of the problems the Jets do. He single handedly turned the Islanders around, and made Nashville the University of Defence. Same goes for Hitchcock. Meanwhile, Bowman had dynasty level teams, and while I don’t say that to detract from his accomplishments and impact, it’s not like he was punching up with his roster.

Carlyle has had one objectively good season in the salary cap era, where he won with an ELITE roster, and has failed to do anything but drag his teams down since.

I’m not gonna say a thing about Maurice, because I don’t have the time

Not all shots from point blank and from other dangerous scoring areas are equal. The Jets defenders were able to compliment Helly's strong positional game and let him shine.

If you have ever wondered if you are a negative or positive Jets fan answer this one question. And for the record, it’s ok to be either and there is no wrong answer!!!!

Roslovic and Vesalainen, two former first round picks will not be in the line up day one and no one really cares and no one is really talking or concerned about it ( to much anyway )

Do you see this as, A. A negative that the team has not properly drafted and developed these two
or B. A positive that this team has built a strong enough team with plenty of talent we dont need these two?

Both answers are right but depending what you choose, clearly will tell you if you are a negative or positive first Jets fan.

It's absolutely B.
Neither are better than any of our top 6 forwards. Roslovic may be our 8th best forward. Jury is still out on Vesalainen, but he isn't likely in our top 8-10.
For the record:
1-6 : Scheifele, Laine, Connor, Ehlers, Wheeler, Stastny (not necc in that order)
7 - Copp
8 - Roslovic if signed
9 - Lowry
10 - Appleton
(Not even counting Perreault, Thompson as they are one year players for us)

Good trade for both teams:

To CBJ: Patrik Laine, Josh Morrissey, Jack Roslovic

To WPG: Pierre Luc Dubois, Zach Werenski

Franchise altering move!

- TheUltimateJet

I wish. Doubtful tho. Given the market, Morrissey and his 6.25M AAV caphit would not likely be embraced by most teams. I am a fan of the guy, and liked the contract as I was expecting the cap to rise up, but he probably wouldn't fetch more than a 3rd rd pick on his own right now. Jets would also need to find some RW's right away if they dropped Laine and Ras both.

I'd be thrilled if this could happen tho!

Is Vesalainen even a top 5 player for the Moose? His numbers are not flattering at all, and I hate to use the term bust, but he is looking like one. Raslovic was over 1ppg in the AHL, and Vesa is under 0.5ppg. Ras was 0.5ppg in the NHL with some weak linemates, and Vesa can't even crack the roster. I don't see the point in comparing these two, other than they were 1st rounders.

Firstly this is an opinion statement.

Secondly, in my opinion if both have been developed well, what is preventing Chevy from trading someone in his top 6 or one of these prospects to upgrade the team now? It seems like Jets fans like a GM that does nothing. Then get offended when that is pointed out. Last I checked if I went to work and did nothing I would be fired. Chevy has got the best job in the world, guaranteed job security, gets to watch all the games for free and does nothing all year but make statements that do not mean anything.
