I think he was but wasn't he the one who (frank)ed his knee up on a golf cart accident? His career might of been different that's why i have great concern about the Dach wrist injury.

Johnson is the same guy where his parents managed his money, nice family

- BetweenTheDots

Different Johnson. That was Jack Johnson.

I read something yesterday that was allegedly stated by a CBJ teammate that the trade request was expected. That it wasn't about contract or Torts but that PLD wants a bigger stage.

Take that for whatever it is. I don't know if that's means he wants to play in a big market or wants to "The Man".

Regardless, I don't think the Hawks have or are willing to give up what CBJ wants and previous trades between Stan and Jarmo seem to always favor Columbus.

Or maybe he just doesn't want to live in Ohio...

Pius Suter on the ice for the first time with Hawks. He’s playing centre with Kubalik and Shaw on his wings.

Wonder if he stays at C or will he move to wing once Soderberg makes it to the team?

Since he only plays offense

I don't think the problem with Strome is that he "doesn't" play defense, it is that he doesn't really understand how to effectively play it. His game doesn't really lend itself to it, and that isn't necessarily a deal breaker (no one is going to mistake Kane for a Selke finalist). What he does need to do (especially being a center) is get better at knowing where to be and when to better help in his own end.

The times that I've concentrated on watching him he seems behind the play a lot and has trouble anticipating where he should be to properly defend. If he can clean that up and find a way to be more assertive, he'll be much more well liked around here.

In place of Atlantic, Central, etc? I have no issue whatsoever with these if it helps the league maintain operations.

I don't want to be combative here, and I've said my piece on ads before, but I find this to be a silly hill to climb (being against ads on equipment, or naming rights to various entities).

If Shaw is actually healthy, I really like that thought of that line. Shaw can play D as well as Saad did, so at least they can be a good counter to another team's scoring line (assuming Suter can replicate his efficient play from overseas).

I don’t have a problem with it either - since I think it was inevitable anyways (as is ads on equipment and various naming rights).

I just hope they don’t somehow monetize the Stanley Cup.

I hope everyone is well......and you older folks are getting your vaccines.

Very concerned about 19...either another concussion, or a non sports related ailment. Either way, the person is more important than the player and JT's LT health is a concern.

Hopefully the Hawks are bad this year and get a top pick and fill whatever organizational hole they deem the most important. I am all for best available but how hard is it to hit on 18 yr old kids and get a true feeling if they will live up to projected value? Glad they have come out and embraced the rebuild and stopped putting a band aid on a sinking ship with a dreadful cap situation.

Hopeful the younger guys that are deemed essential for the next cup chase continue to improve and older guys provide the framework to help expedite that. Other veterans who can be moved, should be moved as the more picks Bowman can accumulate the more darts at the board he can throw to hopefully hit on. Biggest thing I am looking for is starting to see younger guys perform and others are sold off before their value expires.

and....go team usa tonight.

Isnt there a unwritten rule in the league, you don't know what you really have until they play 200 to 250 NHL games?

On another note, i would have trouble believing it if i didn't see it, my son wanted to play football and i could tell his 1st year he didn't have the stamina for it but he was good enough to start. So i enrolled him in the off season, expensive, speed program, the owner explained it to me but what had me sold was there was a puke bucket at every station.

He went from 12mph to 19.5mph by the time the season started. Of course he wasn't in the best shape or ate the healthiest, but that changed since if he ate anything greasie he would be using one of those buckets during training.

I saw it in Kampf and that's why I'm on the side of Strome, if he's working as hard as i keep hearing he can be a good one

Ummm Go Canada Go!

Don’t know why but when Toews talked of fatigue my first thought was an autoimmune disease. With his history a concussion sounds more likely.

I’m hoping the Hawks are in lottery territory after the season, Owen Power would look good on the blue line. That said I’ll still be cheering the Hawks on to win and get into the playoffs even though it’s not in their best interests.

I’m interested to see the younger players especially Ian Mitchell.

Thank you, Theo.
Got a Roku for Christmas. Trying to learn about streaming (I'm old).
Really looking forward to Blackhawk hockey, but the idea of watching minor league hockey intrigues me.

- 35Tony0

You bet, Tony.

I have a Roku at home and use it on multiple TVs so the wife and kids can watch their shows while I watch hockey.

The NHL and AHL apps can be run on Roku (and other similar systems) as well as streamed on a web browser.

Great job Theo. I agree, at this stage of rebuild you draft best player available with your first pick, unless that player is a goalie.
- Angotti

Thanks, Angotti.

Yes, best player available is the strategy for the 1st round and even the 2nd if the draft is deep enough. Later rounds can be based on need.

Yesterday the AHL confirmed which teams are in and out for the season. The Hogs are in but the Milwaukee Admirals (Predators), Charlotte Checkers (Panthers) and Springfield Thunderbirds (Blues) opted out.

Word is players from those 3 teams will be added to fill roster spots on the teams that are playing. So the should be a couple of those guys on the IceHogs.

- scottak

All of the Blues prospects are going from Springfield to Utica (Canucks farm team).

Not sure if there will be a wholesale transfer of the Predators and Panthers prospects to single teams or dispersed to as many teams as possible.

- Tyler Cameron

My guess is Soderberg will slot in at 2C bumping Suter to wing unless Pius impresses.

That line of Suter centering Shaw and Kubalik is intriguing. If they click, keep them together:

DeBrincat - Strome - Kane
Shaw - Suter - Kubalik
Janmark - Wallmark - Soderberg
Hagel - Kampf - Highmore

I know, it's only Day 2 so let's can happen to shake things up.

This is where Strome's hockey sense needs to help guide him with his play without the puck. Keep working on skating but smarts can go a long way.

Wallmark isn't fleet of foot either but makes up for it with intelligence so he can be an all-around player (albeit in the bottom 6).

What sense does this make? Isn't the idea of an AHL team to develop players into the teams systems and ways? So now a rival will have these players and mess up what you are trying to teach them?

Well if he wants to be the man, he should stay in Columbus. As long as the Hawks have Patrick Kane (and hopefully Kirby Dach soon), DuBois will NEVER be the man. Let Columbus trade him to Nashville so he can be with his former teammate Duchesne, then Nashville can have 2 cancers on their team.
- LAHawk

Columbus any sport will always be second fiddle to the Buckeyes. Being the man, getting lots of points and realizing his potential scoring exploits is Duboos' issue because t isn't happening in Columbus.

His problem in all honesty is that he has difficulty flourishing as a scorer under Totarella and his coachig. Dubois is a talented scorer but he needs a different environment. Whether laziness on his behalf is an issue or not, i suspect that if Dubois was handled correctly he could be a top scorer. Tortarella knows this, so it is just a matter of how Torts coaches and how Dubois fits in. Torts knows he has a very good talented scorer but I for one just don't know if Dubois will consistently be a scorer in Columbus with Torts running the show

This is an unusual - and hopefully short term situation. Presumably, next October, things are more back to normal (if can get some national leadership to help get vaccine into peoples arms).

Playing in sub-optimal conditions is better (especially for younger players) than not playing.
