What exactly does Taryn Hatcher have going for her except her looks? What exactly does she contribute to the broadcast?
I hate the fact that sports always needs to have some young attractive woman appearing for no other reason than she is young and attractive. Getting rid off knowledgeable reporters and ex-players while finding the money to hire eye candy! - PT21
From what I've seen...not a whole lot. She stumbles with questions in interviews, formulates bad or cliche questions and seems to miss cues here and there.
That said, you're right in that the NBC Sports formula seems to be mostly pretty girl and a couple of ogres that know the specific sport. See also the 76ers Broadcast.
I guess the Phillies break the mold unless you consider Krukker the resident hottie. |

Travis Sanheim is 6'3" and 180 lbs. You guys worried about his weight? |

Maybe that cluelessness is part of the retrogade charm.
Krukker ha ha. Looks like me, just a lot shorter.
During the 90s and beyond, if I went to a office of a woman who worked in a administrative/clerical office, was white, and was between say 35-60, there was a very good chance I would see a poster of Dutch on the wall/cubicle. (RIP).
Speaking of matriarchal adorations, I was in Napoli 15 odd years ago. That would be about 15 years after Maradona (also RIP) had last played for them. And I would go to these small shops in the Piazzas in very touristy areas, and there would be 3 things I would routinely encounter: 1. The woman cannot even speak the most rudimentary English even though she faces a 100 questions in English a day 2. A statue/picture of the Madonna (I mean biblical) and 3. A picture of Maradona. |

Yes, because he plays like he is 6'3 and 160. I was hoping he had hit the weights but maybe we will see those stoner vibes again. |

I always question these though as they are not always updated. I believe he has been listed as that for three years now not saying he’s huge and couldn’t add a little. Just saying. I think his goal should be around 200. If they could all be as tough as simmer at that weight....oh the dreams. |

Day two and not much mentioned about sandin or Allison. Between those two, carsen and bunny I wonder if any have a chance to dethrone NAK for the 4 th line spot. And how NAK looks. He seemed to find his game all around last year. |

He does look scrawny. I’d definitely like to see him put some muscle on, but not worried about it. Remember how skinny Coots was? |

Simmonds has the skinniest legs I’ve ever seen on an NHLer. Even with pads they look like sticks. |

First, I’m not the biggest Taryn Hatcher fan, but she is improving in her player interviews and seemed to have a good rapport with others on the broadcast crew making it easy to follow.
I liked Katie Emmer. The fact that she came from a big family in Minnesota, probably skated and played hockey as a kid resonated well. Plus she obviously had a real enthusiasm and love for sports and hockey.
When you reference using ex-players, I think that must include women and the availability to be that for most girls hasn’t been there at all until very recently. By that line of thinking, it is just a white male-dominated job reflecting the NHL itself. That is not what hockey should aspire to be since Hockey is for Everyone. It certainly isn’t reflective of it’s fanbase. Isn’t that comprised of more than 60% women?
When you reference knowledgeable reporters, most were at one time just starting out and not very knowledgeable at all. It takes time but what those folks have in common is a natural talent, an enthusiasm for their topic and a strong work ethic. Perhaps someone sees those qualities in Hatcher. I certainly think they appeared true of Emmer.

1. The problem is not the inclusion of women in broadcasts. The problem is these women are all 1. young 2. white 3. attractive and 4. have very little history of having played the sports.
2. Re: your surmise of gender breakup of fan base, whats the weather like in your planet? |

This is an inaccurate description of how Sanheim plays. He's easily in the 200 lb range. |

Actually the person who is obviously unaware of her credentials, that would be you, is the moron. It's amazing how many times you stick your foot in your mouth. Tell us more about when you were in Dubai and all the things you noticed from your elitist perch!

Sanheim hasn't been 180 pounds in five years. Easily in the 200 pound range now, and looks like he added more muscle in offseason. |

Katie did a really good job, knows her hockey and is a super nice person. Hate to see her go.
Taryn has a strong work ethic, and has improved by leaps and bounds in two years. Cool person, too.
Bundy is a friend. Spoke to him the day he was let go (just before Halloween), and we still text and talk by phone. Loved the podcasts we did and enjoyed working with him on Therien's Take for the Flyers' website. I am saddened that time is over, but we remain friends and I know he is passionate about his new work venture. |

Man, I hated hearing that Bundy was let go and now Katie. I thought she did a great job.
