Actually he is far from the smartest guy in the room. He is incapable of thinking for himself. He just parrots the talking points and what he has been brainwashed to think and say in his indoctrination. He is incapable of original thought. - MJL
Amazing how much downtime this guy has. Would dread seeing him walk into a establishment that I frequent. |

Not the fastest no. And that really is the only knock on him. His board work passing and hockey I q are excellent. He almost set up multiple goals. And it has been proven before that skating can be fixed/ improved a lot easier than other aspects of the game. Again. If he can’t skate why was he on the team? Half of the Canadian roster is prob as fast or faster than a lot o do actual nhl player.
Understand the concern but think it’s a little over dramatic. - Peter Richards
I don't mean to be over-dramatic, but let me ask you this. Assuming you watched the US semifinal against Finland and the final against Canada, can you honestly say Brink was a factor in either game, especially in the 3rd period when the game was tight? Besides that one blocked shot in the 3rd last night, he was absent from what I watched. Maybe this is the brilliance of his game, but when I did notice him he was chasing the play and looked awful doing so. I saw no offense from him or his line what-so-ever in either game. I also think his minutes were very limited as each game got down to crunch-time. This does not bode well for a top prospect.
Compare this to York. When the game was on the line, York was on the ice. This speaks volumes to me. For the Flyers sake, I wanted Brink to be the best player on the ice, but as I stated I just don't see it. I guess time will tell. |

Me too, I am noticing that he can't keep up with the pace of play. He has been used sparingly in these last two games, especially in the 3rd periods. - jd250
Wow, what??
He made multiple smart plays defensively and in transition when Canada was pouring on the pressure in the 3rd. He blocked a very dangerous point shot, allowing his completely gassed line to get off the ice. He was strong in the forecheck all night long.
Kid played his balls off, executed his role to a T, on the biggest stage of his young career. The superstars on the other side got shut out because they weren't prepared to grind and sacrifice the way USA's bottom six did.
There was not a single time where he was left behind or out of position due to his skating. |

I meant I was noticing him in positive way
In the 1st (before USA took over) Canada had USA pinned and Brink broke up at least 1 key play in the D zone. He was used in the 3rd last night to protect the lead in the final 2 mins |

While I am enjoying reading this and similar posts, I would have thought there would be higher expectations from him than blocking shots and making gassed teammates get off ice and making smart defensive plays and being strong on the forecheck.
That sounds like a future Michael Raffl. Maybe the poster really meant he doesn't envision Brink as a top 6 NHL forward? |

So do tell. What are you advocating for?
You started this with your criticism of Hatcher and what you deemed the current type of women seen in sports broadcasting. You have indicated that you would be accepting of an attractive woman who played the game and is knowledgeable. You have said you want more minorities.
So again what is it you want? Why did you criticize women in hockey broadcasting today?
Playing experience not required? List four must-haves. - NC Flyers Fan
Dude, I did not criticize women in broadcasting. I criticized a particular kind of women monopolizing that role.
As to what I would advocate, well, I would like more women as color commentators, play-by-play announcers, and I would like them to be more representative of the general female population, just like the men are.
Here is a theoretical way this could happen: First, make all the applicants do a 10 min play-by-play/analysis/interview. Change their voices to the same one (same male voice for men, female for women - even free apps can do that now). Play the tape to employers, without any visuals.
Ask employer team to rank these auditions on a scale of 1-100. They will be forced to do it only on content, by definition.
Then have the top 5/10 applicants show up for interviews and a second live audition.

This represents a special kind of stupid. So the women who aspired and worked to get those jobs should of passed them up due to not meeting the criteria that you want? They deserve criticism because they were able to get the job? Criticize the people hiring them but not the people who worked hard to chase their dreams and were successful. What a bunch of far left liberal nonsense on your part.

Top teams need depth. They need scoring throughout the lineup. A really good team has 3 really good lines that can score. So if Brink turns out to be a good 3rd line forward who plays and strong all around game and provided secondary scoring, as a 2nd round pick, what's the problem?
Here is the bottom line, while I often disagree with Tomahawk on his opinions on certain things, he is a knowledgeable hockey poster. He doesn't see what you see and he has a track record. I think you are suffering from what is known as confirmation bias. |

You play the role you're assigned. In this case, they needed their bottom-six to be immaculate defensively. Watching a 5'8 playmaker fully buy in and help shut down the Team Canada All-Stars was seriously impressive stuff.
And btw, he was basically point per game for the tourney. 2G 4A. When he had the green light to take chances, he was making plays. |

I thought Brink played great in the role he was given. He was strong on the forecheck and defensively. The coach had him out there often in crunch time protecting the lead. Not sure what others were watching but He was always where he was supposed to be and making an impact in the process.
His skating may look awkward to some, but the bottom line is that it doesn't hamper him getting around the ice. He still wins the races he needs to win IMO.

This is technically untrue since as you point out it is currently most/all of the current women in broadcasting as you put it...1:1. But let’s not be petty and get to the point of what you have said.
If the goal is to actually hire fairly based on talent and knowledge, this wouldn’t work. If the goal is simply to have top candidates that are higher quality, then okay. Perhaps over time some astute employer would recognize that their highest scoring candidates in the blind auditions are not hired because of age, appearance, background or voice type. Over time, one might see a pattern. Possible glacial approach.

If Brink turns out to be a reliable top 9 NHL forward in a couple of years that is good value for a 2nd round pick. This has nothing to do with confirmation bias. I just watch the kid play and comment on what I see. And in my opinion he does not have the skating ability needed to be a reliable NHL forward. Time will confirm or disprove my opinion, but nothing I saw last night or the prior night changed my perspective of this prospect, whereas what I saw from York in the semi-final and final did. I now believe York in a few years will be a top 4 NHL D and possibly even a top 2 NHL D, which is great value for a 1st round pick in the teens. |

Fair enough. Fair enough.
I did not watch, so really cannot in good faith argue.
The gentleman has been blowing that bugle for a few days now, so I just wanted to see how credible others consider it, especially guys like you and Landros 2 and others who understand junior hockey (I don't). |
