I was being facetious about Kielly being ECHL calibre, so he isn't an option, because Nightie shot it down right away, without giving it any thought.
I believe they will go with Kielly on Taxi-squadwith MDP and Silovs in AHL to get some games, if a serious injury were to occur, call up MDP.
As Benning has said, the long term prospects will be in the AHL, so that in my mind anyways, means both MDP and Silovs are AHL bound and Kielly is the 3rd stringer.

Not being able to play defensively might also have something to do with that.

Faber and others that watched Utica last season said that he was the best D in Utica last season and most NHL ready.

Don't forget that Stl farm club is joining up, so they will have goalies as well. Possibly.

The skill level of the AHL this year is going to be watered down. Each team will be missing it's top 6 players and be given some NHL rejects.

Having someone like Faber say that is like asking myself you Vantel or any other fan, for an opinion.
Some of is will go with a solid defensive defenseman, while others, like Faber, will go with someone who puts up points, as the only consideration.
I will leave that decision up to the professionals, but maintain my right to criticize any decision made by said professionals.

Interesting.

Capfriendly has included taxi squads and training camp into their roster projections page now.

https://www.capfriendly.com/depth-charts/canucks

Raffy might be on his way down just because of not needing to pass through waivers.

- manvanfan

It's going to be really interesting how teams deal with the taxi squad. Do they only carry a 20 man roster to save cap space? Will they put better players on the taxi squad solely because they don't need waivers? Will they carry prospects who aren't NHL ready but want to carry them with the team?

There's going to be a lot of paper transactions this year to save teams money.

It will have a boatload of 20-23 year-old players.

Taxi-squad players will still require waivers, unless waivers exempt. The same rules apply, as if they were sent to/recalled from the minors.

I was listening to Sat Shah and Brendan Bachelor last night and their comments about Hoglander in the first period and Faber's takes were miles apart. I don't know who was correct but they were so different.

The thing about the Comets D is it doesn't matter which player you choose they are all very close skill wise until you get to Eliot and Teves and then there is a big drop off.

There really is no wrong decision of what player Canucks pick.

The last back up goalie to win a game for the Canucks was Thacher Demko in 2017 he won the only game he played in. DiPietro has played in two games in two years did not win. Domingue did not win his one game he played last year.

As you can see not a lot of games call for a third goalie and when they have been called they usually lose.

I'm more concerned about Mikey getting his games in. Letting him get on a roll. This year is going to be a weird one for developing players,.

Depending on the teams cap situation, I would say.

Depending on team depth.

Agreed.
Always good to get a goalies perspective on these things.

I would keep Mikey D up. If there is an injury, you're going to want a goalie that is used to NHL shooters. Mikey D is at least used to AHL shooters, Kielly played more in the ECHL last season.

Yes, I know that, that's why I said "if they don't need waivers". Ie. they're exempt. Do they put a kid they'd normally have on their 23 man roster on their taxi squad because they can shuffle him back and forth without losing a vet they'd like to keep around? Normally they'd have to send them to the AHL, but this year they'd still be with the team and practicing and papering them back "up" is a same-day thing.

What was the big differences in opinion, between Sat/Batchelor and Faber?
I don't have much faith in Faber, other than some of the highlights from him that you have been sharing with us.

Each team will be different. I just think it's an fun wrinkle that gives GM more options to save money, safeguard players, keep more bubble players around, and massage their rosters and cap.

Interested to see how they all manage it

Do you think any teams will send/paper down players like Hughes and Elias to save cap space.
It would save 52% of that salary?

SN650 both agreed there was not much there with Hoglander in the first . Faber thought Hog looked very good and even posted two clips of very slick passes in the first. Not seeing the game I don't know who was right but the passes did look very nice.

That's like me with Scouch. He's got awesome highlight video's. You just have to put it on mute.

Some of these amateur's forget that it's not what they would do in the league they are playing in but how it would translate it to the NHL.

Faber put up that 8 minutes video of Raffy in Utica and proclaimed how great he was and how NHL ready he was and after listening to all his hype, I couldn't figure out where it was coming from.

Here's my concern. He's a kid who has missed a lot of hockey in a position where confidence and timing are just as important as skill. He isn't getting either sitting in the press box and being a practice target. Combine that with the 3/4 of a year he's missed and it could stunt his development. I'd rather see him build on what he had going before the season ended last year.

Faber loves shiny things.
I hope Hoglander does well.
I remember playing with one player who was a shiny offensive guy, fans loved him all of us teammates hated having him on the team because he was horrible at everything else, especially defense...of course he was the biggest female doger on the team.
