It's a really weird discrepancy, and I must confess that I am guilty of it.

I studied Soviet politics in university. I was always fascinated by it.

In the mid to late 1990s, I used to do some work in Eastern Europe. On my off-days, I would go into antique shops. They had a ton of Soviet-era memorabilia, and I bought some of it, including a full Soviet Red Army Major's uniform (which I have worn a few times at Hallowe'en).

I saw several Nazi artifacts, too. I'm also a WWII buff, so I would have loved to have bought something - for the historical value.

But I didn't dare.

I think it's acceptable if you "brought it home from the war." Otherwise, no way, you can't collect it.

You would have enjoyed the Victory day parade in Khabarovsk. It was really quite a spectacle.

The Capitol police werent surprised by this, they knew about it and let it happened.
Maybe not all, but this isnt a surprise.

Had these been done by muslims or people of colour.....it would have been a massacre.

There is that strange distinction. Nazi symbols are totally taboo, but Soviet symbols not so much, even though they too are symbols of crimes against humanity. Hitler is the GOAT of evil as Bill Burr says. Stalin is like Dino Cicarelli. People forget his stats.

I think it's a shame some young left types have adopted the hammer and sickle. It's counterproductive at best. Then again Defund The Police was the single dumbest political slogan of all time, so (frank) me.

I think you guys are missing a small point here:

He's not a Nazi.

He's a pudgy middle-America loser playing xenophobe dress-up. He probably hasn't actually done much - sure, he's read anti-Semitic websites, and he's probably gone to a few "retreats" where he's listened to hate speeches and shot off guns, but in terms of actual crimes against humanity, he's probably clean.

Would I invite him to dinner? No.

Does he deserve to be assaulted, and possibly killed? Sorry, I'm not down with that.

- Atomic Wedgie

Hey, whats wrong with shooting off guns?

Dino Cicarelli scored 600 goals and had 1400 PIM. Yet you'll see a Stalin shirt before a Dino jersey. Stalin never even played. It's a (frank)ed up world.

Right? You never see anyone donning the Nelson Mandela sweater either. What a goalie he was.

Agreed.

FFS, Sting makes $2,000 a day from royalties from Puff Daddy's poop song alone - you think he really still needs federal money?

So 20-25 years ago, so the numbers I'm quoting are just foggy recollections, but I think I ended up paying about $50 for the uniform. I really wanted a stone bust of Lenin's head (bigger than a basketball), but they wanted about $200 for it, and it would have been a giant pain in the ass to bring home (I'm guessing I would have brought it as carry-on, and maybe put it under my seat?).

You gotta admit it would look pretty franking cool in my backyard.

On a related note, while most Eastern Bloc countries tore down their communist-era statues for scrap, Budapest simply moved them to a park on the edge of town:

He should've been banned years ago if we're being real.

they shouldn't waste time on impeachment, rather... he stopped even vaguely doing his job... since the election he lost.

remove him from office - otherwise there will be two weeks of potentially very dangerous developments.

US is officially a banana republic.
