Have you been in the last few years?

I would love to go back and see just how much it has changed in the past 25 years.

- Atomic Wedgie

Last visit was in 2010, Lots of changes, wine cellars and crappy starchy food still the same. Women generally fabulous.

Pass - Looking for this to celebrate Trump eating crow and getting vaccinated

oh yes.

Best wine I ever had was a 1982 Barolo at Centro, way back when. (it's closed now I think)

Is it worth trying if the standard baco noir didn't float my boat?

I've been spoiled by the okanagan recently, the idea that there's actual good canadian wines would have surprised me 5 years ago.

- TheMussel

Problem is the number of days of sunshine. Okanagan has the best potential but their best is overpriced relative to what you can buy from say the Rhone Valley or Tuscany.

Could be worse. The first "real" alcohol I drank was Bicardi 100 proof rum because my dad had let me have watered wine and sips of beer, but wanted to prove the hard stuff was bad and not to be abused. Gave me a shot of it...I still can't drink rum to this day.
- AdamFrench

lol.. my uncles used to give me beer a pretty young age. maybe 10 or 11.. I remember one time my mom brought a bottle of rum back from dominican, blanco ron or something?? she wondered why it watered down. i wonder

I loved that place, the food was so-so, but the wine list was sensational. I took my brother there for his birthday sat next to Mel Lastman's table and had a 1971 Barolo for $40. It was sensational and had a little note on it indicating grapes were crushed by foot.

They do make some good rums also. My mom brought me back a nice bottle. I am not a rum drinker, but a friend of mine is and the bottle I have is one of his favourites. It's almost gone now and he is mourning that it isn't available in Canada.

Hey so for you wine snobs, are there any actual good Ontario wines that you can get for under 50 bucks a bottle?
- TheMussel

Not sure about Ontario reds ..probably some good ones but I like my red to be purple - not much of that here.

But for good Chardonnays Ontario does a lot of good stuff. ....look for the name Bachelder. He does Le Clos, Closson Chase and some of the good stuff out of Twenty Mile Bench ....he's the guy for really good full chardonnay in Ontario.

The Closson Chase winery up in PEC is a nice time and still quiet enough most weekends ..unlike Niagara.

Give me Yecla Spain or give me death! Also there are some real great Georgian wines you can only get in Eastern Europe/Russia that are quite fantastic. Really gave me an appreciation of the region.

My favourite thing about Hungary, though: the fatal (I'm sure there are accents I am missing).

Winsie can correct me if I get anything wrong, but I believe the translation is "Hungarian wooden platter" - and they would serve it on a wooden plate with a giant skewer in the middle, sticking straight upward. And then they would stack meat on the skewer - steak, chicken, sausage, turkey - kinda whatever meat they could think of. Not a lot of vegetables - maybe onion rings.

In the late 90s, my wife and I were living in the Annex - and there used to be a few Hungarian restaurants on Bloor. Once a year she would humour me and we would go for a fatal.

Oh, Aethsie, I'm telling you - the meat sweats afterwards were fantastic.

- Atomic Wedgie

fatányéros - close enough - wooden platter (loosely translated) Heart disease special but usually the best family deal on the menu.

I knew the owner quite well, he had an unbelievable wine collection and started a restaurant on that premise. The Italian wine list was especially great and priced reasonably.

(frank), I wish the Jays got Lindor

but...
Id need to see the comp cost, or what it would take to beat the Mets deal..
also, if Lindor wouldnt sign extension with Jays...(frank) that..pass
also, I saw he is asking for a deal 300mil range..sooo..thats a lot

Jays better get a couple good players this offseason

- senstroll

I've been hoping they get one big name all this time but now that they've been linked to literally every single guy, I want them to get two.

This off season will be a complete failure if they strikeout on everyone.

I think you can find it beside the Hochtaler.
- Aetherial

I can still sing the entire Hochtaler commercial. The woman was hot.

...and whenever i sip it, I say this wine's got class.

There's something about Hoctaler, that makes it taste divine.

So cool and (something) and crisp, now that's some kinda wine...

Berns steakhouse in Tampa.

I believe it is the largest private collection in the world(?) You can get a tour of the wine cellar and kitchen after you eat. It is unbelievable how much they have down there. Their wine list is a book. (6800+ items) and hundreds of thousands of bottles

Hopefully I will be able to go back the end of September this year for my dad's 80th!

Funniest part of that, is the Onion Rings!

It can't be healthy. I also get the feeling that it seems great at first, and then rapidly deteriorates into sickening. The meat sweats would be worse than my wife's hot flashes!

- Aetherial

My wife is going through the same thing. I just do my best bobble head impression, I just keep nodding no matter what she says.

My parents had it also.

We had an empty bottle in the basement that may parents had put a candle on top, and the wax had dripped.

I think there were also some chianti bottles that had the same treatment - the ones with the bottom of the bottle wrapped in cheap wicker (or whatever they make baskets from).

1970s basement decor was really a fantastic thing. Yes, we had wood paneling.

Best thing I ever did for my wife was buy a 6" clip on fan and clipped it to our headboard, pointing at her. Then I plugged it into a power bar that sits on her nighttable... she can just hit the switch on the power bar at night
