Draisitl signed his contract same year as Marchand and Pasternak
Mc David was one year later.
There was only one contract in the entire NHL signed this year over 8 mil so I doubt Bruins would sign three at 9 mil - VANTEL
This year was all bridge or small term. If Pasta was signing a bridge it would be 8x3. If they wanted 6+ he would be 10+ easily. Bergeron would be in the 9 range even short term, just like Hall. |

I like what Hoglander brings to Bo's line He is quick and he can finish. Also he's not afraid to throw and elbow or two to create space for himself- he's going to be a great fit. I will be keeping and eye on CDC and twitter to see who else can impress. The one thing I keep going back to about Hamonic is he's a lot more capable of the physical play than Tanev was which could also give Quinn "Wolverine" Hughes more time and space. I feel like the D has improved in mobilty but also in physicality with the additions of Schmidt and Hamonic. |

Speculation.
I don't think a 35 year old would get 9 mil or term. If you are talking him as a younger player very few players in the last three years have been signed long term high priced contracts. The ones that have signed 9 mil contracts now see their team with cap issues.

People don't seem to realize that the cap has been going up every year until this year. Bergeron signed his contract at a cap percentage is 10.69%, 7 years later his cap hit only costs them 8.4% of the cap.
Same with Crosby's 14.50% is now only worth 10.7% of today's cap.
Players that sign an 8 year deal are going to want their piece of the future pie.
It's these 5 year deals that are signed at absolute max cap percentages. They aren't like Crosby or Bergeron that after 5 years later are missing out on 2-3M a season.

It is great that Hoglander will probably fit in the top 6 but Bo looks like his game has taken another step in the right direction also. |

Thanks for pointing out the new rule on QO Vantel, I had forgotten about that. I take back my comment, bridges now look very team friendly. |

It’s all relative, in 2015/16 Crosby & Malkin’s combined salaries took up 25% of the cap, two of the best in the game and highest paid that year, last year McDavid & Draisaitl’s combined salaries took up 25% of the cap.
Having a couple highly paid players, who are really good, doesn’t screw your cap situation, overpaying mid-level and non performing players does. |

SN is televising Leafs game-like scrimmage but Canucks only get to stream off their website. These kind of discrepancies in 2021 just make Eastern hate more justified. |

I think the chances of the cap going down this year and next is greater than the chances of it going up. I think the NHL will lose between 1-1.5 billion this year. |

Revenues will be down no doubt. That's why they have frozen the cap for 3 years and dubbed it the flat cap era. |

Good thing Canucks planned to have all these vet contracts expire to pay for the new core coming up. |

I know they froze it but I could see them coming back and saying we wrongly guessed the money we would lose and have to cut the cap even lower.

I wasn’t talking about the Canucks, but more so, just saying that because you have two highly paid players doesn’t screw your salary cap situation. Just a generic comment, but good on you for coming to their defence on a continual basis. |
