Dads and sons are easy. Dads and daughters...although she does love fishing, and can kick most guys asses with a fishing rod. I would love for my wife and daughter to travel somewhere together, even for a weekend.
- Woderwick

My wife is a!lowed to take my daughters on trips without me - but they have to leave me the dog.

(Was going to correct the typo, but I kinda like it).

I'm jealous of you and Aethsie.

We had a high school buddies' playoff pool for about 20 years. The draft was always a fantastic piss-up.

It died about 15 years ago.

- Atomic Wedgie

poop, that sucks. A couple years ago I took one of my old ball hockey scoring title trophies and ripped the name plate off and took it to a trophy store to get a name plate made that says- Fantasy Champ. Now the winner of the playoffs gets to rub it in the losers faces.

Side note, name plates for trophies are more expensive than they got any right being.

Damn - We’re in year 8. In the States, though, that’s pretty good.
- RickJames77

Nice.

Ours is a pretty big league, players wise. 10 of us in total and 22 rounds in the draft. Yours?

One guy would send out a spreadsheet every morning with the results and standings.

Once one of your players was eliminated, the rest of the columns for his point totals would be blacked out.

It led to endless trash talk about you needing to compensate companies for wasting all the printer ink because your poopy team had so many blacked out guys.

Good times

Sadly, no.

We could probably get about 7 guys.

But honestly, half of the fun was the draft.

Small in terms of people, large in terms of rounds. It’s not as deep as yours though. 6 teams and 30 roster spots.

It really is most of the fun. Ours is not a fantasy league, just a snake draft, goals and assists only, usually about 12 guys, 20 rounds. It's only 20 bucks to get in, so it isn't like you get rich if you win. It's really all about the draft.

Last couple of years, it wasn't a draft - it was simply "pick 12 forwards, 6 D and 2 goalies."

You would think it would lead to having identical teams, but for a playoff pool, it's fine.

I’ve made it to the final 4 out of 8 years. I’ve
Made it time the semis 6 out of 8. The playoffs every year. I’ve lost every (frank)ing time. One time after the trade deadline I had McDavid, Draisaitl, Scheifele, Wheeler, Crosby, Malkin , Stamkos, and Kucherov and I still lost

The guy that beat me literally called me and was like, I have no idea how I pulled that off. That’s the (frank)ing way she goes.

6 teams makes for top heavy teams. Pretty much no such thing as a bad draft spot, either. My league breakdown is 9F, 5D, 1 Utility, 2G, and 5 bench players.

I got Pasternak in the 5th round since he's out for a good bit.

Nice!

Yeah, we tried to make up for the top heavy teams by extending out the rounds. I’ve been asking for more rounds every year and it never gets approved. I’m pretty sure they know I’d just rake them over the coals in the late rounds.

15 teams, 4C, 8W, 6D, 2G, 2BN, 2IR, 1NA

waiver wire is pretty bare

the biggest challenge is top goalies go early because at least 30 end up getting drafted

My bad, I flagged this post by accident.

I wish I could find a league like this. Or some type of real dynasty league. Unfortunately, fantasy hockey is not big at all in the states.

One year our playoff pool was so big that we split it into two halfs.

I had the identical team (except 1 player) to someone in the other half. (it was '93, we both had Leafs and kings). This was an unbelievable fluke in a snake draft pool and we were drafting in different spots in our drafts.

The one player difference was I had Jagr (Pit) and I forget who he had. I won, by one point

My league is $40 each. But we split the money into 2 separate pools. Half the money for the playoffs winner and season champion and the other half is split 3 ways. $120 for the team that got the most points during the season, $60 for 2nd, and $20 for 3rd.

We like doing it this way because it spreads the money around and gives more people a chance to win some.

I find it's a good way to keep all in the league engaged every single year.

Our winner uses the money to buy strippers for the next draft. We had Tumbleweed and Flyfreaky on a zoom tease.

Now you know all you need to about our buy in.

Forwards-

Auston Matthews
Sebastian Aho
Patrick Kane
William Nylander
David Pastrnak
Mathew Barzal
Nicklas Backstrom
Alex DeBrincat
Jesse Puljujarvi

Defense-

Dougie Hamilton
Miro Heiskanen
Thomas Chabot
Drew Doughty
Nate Schmidt

Bench-

Dominik Kubalik
Kirill Kaprizov
John Klingberg
Joe Pavelski
Ryan Getzlaf

Goalies

Darcy Kuemper
Petr Mrazek
Anton Khudobin

I gambled on Puljujarvi in case he plays with McJesus or Draisaitl. Doughty in case he has a great year. And I took Getzlaf because he's one of my favourite players in the league.

100 years ago, I worked with a guy who was in a football pool. It was a huge pool, so tons of prize money.

They had a "red lantern prize"- to the person who finished dead last in the pool. It was a good amount of money.

By about week 12, he was closer to the bottom than the top, so he decided he was going to try to win the red lantern prize - so he was trying to pick the losers, not the winners.

I told him that if he wanted to do that, he would be better off still trying to pick winners, since he was so franking terrible at it.

There was an awkward silence for about 5 seconds, and then we laughed our arses off.

Wow, 15 is a lot of teams. I find more than 10 is too much for my liking. I got a 12 team draft tomorrow.
