I gambled on Puljujarvi in case he plays with McJesus or Draisaitl. Doughty in case he has a great year. And I took Getzlaf because he's one of my favourite players in the league. - GreatGigInTheSky Nice!
We had some crossovers and more interestingly you had a few players I was gunning for that I didn’t get.

100 years ago, I worked with a guy who was in a football pool. It was a huge pool, so tons of prize money.
They had a "red lantern prize"- to the person who finished dead last in the pool. It was a good amount of money.
By about week 12, he was closer to the bottom than the top, so he decided he was going to try to win the red lantern prize - so he was trying to pick the losers, not the winners.
I told him that if he wanted to do that, he would be better off still trying to pick winners, since he was so franking terrible at it.
There was an awkward silence for about 5 seconds, and then we laughed our arses off. - Atomic Wedgie
I've been in a few that have done that but instead of last it was 2nd last. To try and stop that from happening and harder to do. |

My league is $40 each. But we split the money into 2 separate pools. Half the money for the playoffs winner and season champion and the other half is split 3 ways. $120 for the team that got the most points during the season, $60 for 2nd, and $20 for 3rd.
We like doing it this way because it spreads the money around and gives more people a chance to win some.
I find it's a good way to keep all in the league engaged every single year. - GreatGigInTheSky
We don't do it every year, but we sometimes give 20.00 for last place. It is a decent consolation if you lost because of horrible injury luck. I have a feeling we may give 20 back for last place this year. |

I had a friend put our NFL pool into perspective for me one year. It was every game, against the spread. He finished a couple games below .500
He said to me "If there was a 5 year old, who decided to pick every team I didn't pick, just to be a smart-ass, the 5 year old would have beaten me". |

after being in pools with these guys for so many years, there are definitely people I hate picking right before or after me. I know which ones think the same way I do and are likely to burn me that way.

I had one season where I had the highest scoring team (fantasy points) but missed the playoffs. It was (frank)ing insane. Every matchup I had was the highest of the week and I lost most of them.
Thank (frank) for the money split. |

A buddy used to run an interesting football pool a few years ago.
You had to pick the winners - no spread - but you would rank them, 1-16.
So if the winner you selected of your top ranked game won, you got 16 points. 2nd highest ranked game, 15 points, etc.
It was pretty fun.
And I've never done a survivor pool, but it's definitely on my list of things to do. |

yes, This.
My brother in law is in a big one, about 75 guys, and 100each to get in. I want to try it next year. I don't like gambling though, so I think I will be a little freaked out by 100 bucks LOL.

I haven't done a survivor pool but I was in a huge bracket hockey pool a few years back. Most of the money went towards funding a womens ball hockey team (Lady Knights, I'm pretty sure) so they could go play in the Worlds down in Florida (I think Florida), but the winner of the pool got $1000.
Best money I've ever won. |

Wow, 15 is a lot of teams. I find more than 10 is too much for my liking. I got a 12 team draft tomorrow. - GreatGigInTheSky
tbh it's actually kind of nice because it forces trades for anyone that wants to make a significant move, and you kind of have to if you start falling behind in some categories |

Once upon a time, i was in a really yuge football pool - it was an unofficial company pool for a very, very large Canadian company. I didn't work for the company, but I had 100 friends who did - friends of employees were welcome. IIRC, 1st place was about $2000. There was also prizes for 2nd and 3rd.
I entered the final week of the season in 1st place. After the 1 pm games, I was still in 1st place.
At half time for the 4 pm games, I was still in 1st place. The pool was run through the CBS Sportsline website, so you could see how you were doing in real time.
I watched in horror (hitting refresh every 10 seconds) as my lead slowly slipped away. I ended up in 5th or 6th - no prize money. |

Matthews is currently 693rd all-time in goals. He has the same amount of career goals as Sabres legend Maxim Afinogenov. |
