Also, this may be heresy, but Scott Laughton should get some shifts in Giroux's spot and vice versa if 2nd line struggles. - PT21
So you're advocating demoting Giroux to the 4th line if the 2nd line struggles? Why am I not surprised at that coming from you?

I did not watch all of the game yesterday, but I watched a fair bit. I was really surprised at how good NP looks, not just in skill level but in his confidence. I know this is just practice but he looked far better than pre-injury (knocks-on-wood). He was making play after play after play. With 7-8 mins to go, he went behind the net, passed to himself off the net (or was it the boards), spun around on a dime and completely lost his defender.
I really hope this is is the NoPa that shows. I did not see a 3C. I saw a future 1C.

Are you suggesting the captain on the fourth line? Did you see his pass to Hayes for his first goal? - ClaudeFather
Did you see Laughton strip the puck off Friedman and deke Moose? Did you see him beat the same in shoot-out and end up hitting his blade with an open net?
I said IF the 2nd line is not working out. Laughton looks like a dude on the verge of something big after high expectations but slow start.
Reminds me of Brandon Graham in that regard. |

I am always ready to admit errors when I make them. I thought he would not be on the ice this season. I thought we would see a tentative, rusty player who has regressed.
I saw panache and flair and many, many sightings of what Sanheim recently called "next level" skills.
I don't have the best pair of eyes for this sort of thing, but he looked to me the best player on the ice, even better than Hayes. |

A few more points?
Schenn had 58 points in a season that was cut short to Hayes’ 41 points. Tied in points the season before. The season prior to that Schenn had 70, Hayes had 44. Not to mention Schenn gets paid 6.5 million a season to Hayes 7.14 million. Hayes is good defensively but not on a level of Couturier, Richards, Primeau or Handzus. This is not a wash in my opinion.
We don’t know when Frost will become a regular but he’s been underwhelming and we now don’t know if Patrick will have along career or a short one. - SuperSchennBros
He has 1 year of pro hockey under his belt. Made the AHL all star team. Very underwhelming indeed. |

He’s 21 and not in the NHL and this season doesn’t look any closer. Glad your expectations are high though. |

It wasn’t a whole year due to the pandemic, and he did have some NHL games as a call-up.

this leaves out a lot of the details. While I would hope he played his way onto the big squad there is for sure some situations he was not in control of that stunted his progress.

My expectations are reasonable. To say he has been underwhelming is flat out false. He played what 20 games last year with the Flyers. Was the Phantoms best player. Add to the fact the coaching staff does him no favors. |

If Frost had to go through waivers, would he be picked up? If so, how many teams would be interested.
Keep in mind they would have to put him on the NHL roster |

Sigh, I think this happens when you have contender depth, on offense anyway. Not that it is too familiar to us over the last decade or so...Just look at that forward lineup:
Oskar Lindblom - Sean Couturier - Travis Konecny
Claude Giroux - Kevin Hayes - Joel Farabee
James van Riemsdyk - Nolan Patrick - Jakub Voracek
Michael Raffl - Scott Laughton - Nicolas Aube-Kubel |

Morgan Frost was drafted in 2017. He’s not 4 months from age 22. We didn’t have Nolan Patrick and Oskar Lindblom last season. Joel Farabee was able to stay on on the roster and Morgan Frost was not. Frost should be playing to make the NHL, not being proud to make the AHL All-Star team. Your expectations are laughable. |

I'll go a different direction. What if we kept schenn and signed hayes still ?
You lose farabee frost. But you have hayes schenn.
Instead of Patrick you take heiskanen cause your center depth is already elite.
Are we better or worse ? |

agree, there is a case to say with injuries last year he still didnt make it. That is mitigated by the shortened season and the fact the Flyers were chasing the playoffs, getting in they really had to try and add center depth with Thompson and Grant. I said it then, I do think they should have sat one of those 2 and let Frost play vs Isles. Yes rust etc but the lack of push by the whole team there was nothing o lose. I do get AV sticking with the experience however |

This is an excuse. There were roster spots opened last season. Last season we were thin on depth that saw Scott Laughton and Tyler Pitlick as third line players next to James van Riemsdyk. We didn’t not have Lindblom and Patrick. This season should know different should we see injuries or players needing to sit for Covid signs. |

Better
but what if all the other teams also did the what if, would that mean no one was available?

I will agree with most of this, it’s certainly taking quite a long time for a “top prospect”, when is it going to happen for this kid. How many years in a row has it been, maybe Frost will make the lineup. |

Interesting tidbit from that 2017 draft class. Despite missing an entire season plus, Patrick is still 5th in points and 3rd in games played among that draft class.

Hayes also didn't play the full 82-games, he was deployed much more defensively than Schenn, and you have to also take into account that he scored a lot of pts in the PO's, too.
If either of Frost or Farabee hit their potential, it would have been worth the trade. If both hit their potential, than we're looking at a lesser version of Recchi for Leclair/Desjardins.
And Patrick... who was the entire reason why Schenn was traded in the first place... if he can get back on track, then there's really no reason left to reminisce about Schenn at all. |

Can the 27th pick be considered a "top" or "cant miss" prospect. Personally I think when viewed historically he is right in line with average development for a player taken in that general area.

I don’t want to turn into a “What if...” debate. I just stated that I wouldn’t have traded Schenn as a developing player because there was no need to at the time. An hour before we traded Schenn, we drafted Patrick.
Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Jake Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Travis Konecny, Nolan Patrick and Brayden Schenn would have been our forward depth heading into season 2017-18, which I think is pretty good.
After we traded Schenn we signed James van Riemsdyk anyway and Kevin Hayes a year after that. |

I understand the argument about last year, and maybe it was a missed opportunity but they didn’t have a crystal ball. Probably just didn’t see any harm in giving Frost more time to develop physically. I don’t think that criticism or argument can be applied this season with the current NHL roster depth.
It tough for him sure, but I would like to also point out the same is now true for all the almost-ready Flyers forward prospects. |
