I am sure there will be a lot of activity by every team this year taking full advantage of the cap but I think we pretty well have a good idea of what the Canucks look like.

I don't expect seeing Loui or Sven being called back up in two days. Who knows?

It was more like, for example, Hoglander not being on the roster today because his entire cap hit can be buried, but being on the opening game roster on Wednesday. Something about the bonus structure for ELC players where their theoretical cap hit changes depending on when they are added to the roster. Thankfully they have a guy for that.

Our top 6 is better laster year as LE is no longer on it. Other then that it has the same 5 players and we had a very good start to the season. Our D is very much improved. Our only true question mark is if Demko and Holtby can be as good as Marky and Demko were last year. Did this guy actually pay attention last year to our players?
EDIT: With an improved defense and our young guys being a year better, our goalies should be less busy this season as well.

You are right but it doesn't sell subscriptions to the Athletic. Too vanilla.

Even if Hoglander scores five goals this year he is faster and a better playmaker than Loui. He will create more chances for Bo that should lead for more goals for his line mates.

This year the entire team is healthy and that is a better start than last year.

Our D is more mobile and will create a lot more transition than our old shotblocker and undersized Troy from Delta.

Goaltending is a push and even probably better seeing Demko got better as the year went on.

Personally, I've always been a Hoglander fan, however, due to his size I've always maintained the odds are stacked against him. Guy has a great engine, he's really fit and his puck skills are outstanding. That said, I think he's going to do well his first year, 15 goals 35 points in a short year?

I am more concerned about Pearson. He was quiet in training camp . Can't have slow starts.

He's kind of a plodding type of player, he doesn't have any flash but he'll get his looks. His production was really good last year for a second liner.

That is a VERY optimistic total for a first year player. That’s a 22 goal, 51 pt pace for a guy who probably won’t see much PP time, no PK time and will in all likelihood get bumped from his line situationally (defending a lead for instance)

I am not totally against it . If he signs a short two year deal keep him but I don't want to get locked in on 4 years for replaceable players.

Boeser also after two years needs an 8 million qualifying offer . Unless he is a 30 goal guy I would keep my eye on him also.

This season reminds me of the year that “experts” picked the Canucks to finish with 63 points or whatever. Even the most pessimistic fans said that’s horsepoop, they’ll be better than that.

Though, I feel like this time they actually will be...

Why wouldn't he? If he sticks on the team I can't see how he's not on PP2 the entire year.

You're right about that being a very optimistic point total though.

He's going to want a similar if not more $ and term deal as TT got. He may even end up in MTL, not here.

If he doesn't work out we can call up Loui and his 7 goals (4 empty nets).

I really liked Marky's game last year. Demko should improve but I think people are sleeping on Holtby. I've watched a lot of his games over the years because I enjoy his style. There isn't any drop-off there from Marky. He looks in form from everything I've seen so far from camp.

Just finished listening to Ferraro on 1040, says the Canadian Division is so hard to predict, however, he has it like this...not that anyone cares, just food for thought. Lots of NHL type people say too many question marks in Vancouver.

His concerns were...

1) the goaltending is hard pressed to be as good as it was last year
2) the bottom six isn't any different and they were one of the worst last year
3) they're a top six forward short
4) Hoglander is a huge question mark
5) although Pearson & Horvat play really well together is Pearson still a good option in the top six

Toronto
Calgary
Montreal
Edmonton
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Ottawa

No playoffs...

We've improved in every area other than Markstrom...

Once Ian Clark has Holtby back to 0.912 we'll be fine

It's such a strange, unconventional, year, the only thing I'm sure of is Pettersson, Boeser and Quinn Hughes will have huge years.

He could end up with Montreal and that is fine although Montreal can't really afford a 4 million dollar player next year. I think in two years Montreal will be even more screwed than they are now.

Their development of their first round picks is terrible and their other prospects. They have had 4 first round picks in the last 7 years average 101 NHL games and that includes Galchenyuk who played 400 .

TB starts next year already 3 mil over the cap and have 15 players signed. I would rather see Canucks walk away from Pearson and find another JTM or Schmidt type trade for a top 6 player.
