I said 40 on the prediction thread. I may have low-balled him. - GreatGigInTheSky
yeah I think so.... I think he is for sure putting up 70+ points this season. |

I would imagine the "why" is more important than the "how." |

Oh he will.
He did it in Colorado. Did it in Toronto. He's gonna do it in Edmonton.
He's just gonna score more points to make it less painful. - Scabeh
This is the thing. It's an optical illusion. Last year the Oilers PP operated at 29.5% effectiveness, which is the 4th best in NHL history. The best since the 78-79 Islanders posted a 31.2%.
Will it be as effective this year? Probably not, but let's say that it is. They'll score maybe 48 goals in a 56 game season. Tyson Barrie won't make it any better - he won't change the rate that they score or the total goals. He'll just collect a few more points.
But he will be there to create giveaways and goals against that they didn't have last year.
I'm not sure I get the addition for the Oilers. |

They lost Klefbom. They don't think Bouchard is ready.
I don't think the idea went further than that.

Sorry, that was what I trying to get at. The benefit of adding Tyson Barrie is to make your PP better. If he's not going to actually make it any better than it already is (but simply sponge up some points so he looks ok), but he's still going to be Tyson Barrie at 5v5 . . . I don't know where they are getting value from him. |

Fun fact.
No penalty was called on that play.

Great defensive holding by Weber, that leg hold was special. i think the ref's view was blocked.

Serendipity? Klefbom wasn't expected to miss this season until December; Barrie was signed in October. I suppose it's very plausible that they knew about Klefbom prior to the announcement in December.
All this talk has basically convinced me that the Oilers probably won't be a top-3 team despite having two of the best players in the world. |

I've been thinking about editing the point totals I put down. But I also kinda want to stick to what my first guesses were. |

If this was normal times, I'd now be plotting how to sneak out of the office in an hour to go to the Keg or Marche for pre-game.
Sucks that Marche is gone. My kids loved it.

I was obviously referring to the blatant obstruction by Matthews.
