Could be referring to when they first arrived to camp recently.

If ladd was going on ltir it would have been Tuesday as thats when you max the most cap space for the season - Upstate_isles
Not sure so you might want to check with others but I believe he can be placed on the LTIR during the season and you would still get the relief. It doesn't have to be at the beginning of the season.

Well, my opinion as Sakic did with Duchene you don't trade a player of that quality without getting what you want and need back in return. The player shouldn't drive what the return here is. Dubois needs to perform whether on the Jackets or another team. If he doesn't it will bite him in the ass at the end.
This could be in a day or a year, but they are going to wait to get the value they want imho. - nyisles7
Something along the lines of Chytil, one of our top prospects on either wing or D (say Robertson, or Lundkvist, or Khodorenko, or Reunanen) and a draft pick may well get it done quickly. There's even Kravstov to offer, but I hope they don't do that.
Ultimately, I'd prefer they stand pat for a while and see who develops, but we are quite thin at center.
Good luck tonight, guys.
Really pumped to see this team play, no matter how it goes! |

To The Rangers as well.
I think the BJ are a better team with Dubois then with prospects obvi. That said if they are out of PO contention then the rebuild may be on as Torts is in his last contract year as is Foligno and other key people on the team. Going to be interesting how it plays out. Habs and Winnipeg are also knocking on the door. Have to think JD having a relationship there helps the Blueshirts.

Staple said it has to be day one as ot sets it for the year as a max cap hit. They can go on later but it's not the full amount. Maybe I'm reading it wrong
The Islanders will need Boychuk’s $6 million cap hit to be placed on long-term injured reserve Tuesday to become cap compliant. Unless they’re trading Andrew Ladd (three years, $5.5 million), there’s no way to be compliant without LTIR.
And as we’ve explained, when Boychuk goes on LTIR, the Islanders want to be as close to their adjusted cap as possible. Unlike being under the regular $81.5 million cap, when teams accrue cap space each day of the season, the day a team places a player on LTIR is a snapshot; if the Islanders had $81.5 million plus Boychuk’s $6 million, and were only at $84 million in cap space used, they could not save that extra $3.5 million in space for use at a later time.
They can do that once their adjusted cap is set, which will be on Tuesday. So, the Islanders want to have as many contracts on the roster as they can to eat up as much of Boychuk’s $6 million cap hit as possible. |

Yes as you said, LTIR gives you relief only if you go over the cap. So that said if Ladd gets injured say in 10 Days and the Islanders at that point can sign someone 5 mil over the cap because their cap increases by Ladds AVV. So they can go and trade for someone at that time and be over the cap by 5 mil. But it can be done at any point is my understanding. Which only makes sense because if you a career ending injury or one that takes him out 25 game or longer ( Reg Season amount ) then you can put a player on LTIR. Not fair if you can only do this in the beginning of the season.
I just don't think Barry and Lou would LTIR a player who could pot 28 goals this season

You can be over the cap by 10% before the season so they had 89 Million to use before the beginning of the season so Barzal could have been signed. On day 1 of the season the 10% comes off but the JB LTIR kicks in so there no issue. If Barzal signed for 10 Million and it was over the 10% or what JB's relief would give us then we would not have been able to do it. As it was he signed for 7 so he could have signed at anytime without issue.
