I'm not advocating for trading for Dubois. All I'm saying is the Jets should be in win now mode, instead of wishing and hoping that their prospects will fill the gaps the team has before their current core ages out. - BWJumper

I wouldn’t trade Roslovic for a third, no point to that. Let him sit or sign a one year deal and up his value.
For Columbus, I’d ask for one of Foudy, Texier or Bemstrom. - Ross77
Yea would make sense - prefer Texier, but one of other two would be all right as well. |
|
|

Sportsnet is saying Pittsburgh has interest in Roslovic, pretty empty prospect pool and really nothing on their lineup that they'd part with for Roslo is all that interesting, at best I hope they can get a 2nd round pick for him. |

You are suggesting making a trade like the Carter trade (Dubois for Perfetti and a 1st) on the losing/overpayment side to set yourself up to trade Laine at a sure loss because it’s known (by then, hypothetically) that he wants out?
I must once again reiterate that PLD does not make this team a contender right now. He is most assuredly an upgrade on Stastny at 2C, and probably better than Scheifele, but the defence and systems are still broken.
Keeping Perfetti and not getting Dubois, who may very well want out of Winnipeg more than Laine allegedly does, is terrible asset management. You are trading a likely superior player to have cap issues sooner. Perfetti’s ELC allows you to sign Laine long term, and not worry about Perfetti until the Wheeler contract is out. - Rexypoo
Rexy this all Makes sense but let’s be honest, if Laine wants out, he could tell it to you personally and you’d still blame the Jets for not locking him up. (And please don’t @ me with your same 10 reasons you’ve wrote 1000 times)
Jets held on to Trouba as long as they could trying to convince him to sign long term and got blamed for decreasing their position and his value
Now if they trade Laine (another player wanting out ) sooner rather than later to get as much value he will also be blamed for trading him to soon.
GM’ing ain’t easy, Hard to win with fans

They lost the Mike Richards deal because Simmonds was the better player in his first year as a Flyer.
They won that cup because they were a possession monster with unholy Quick performances to seal the deal. - Rexypoo
Just stop,
You win the cup yet alone two, you have have won all trades that led up to it.
There is zero argument to be made other than this and making one is just laughable |

You are right! I guess Richards 15 points in 20 playoff games in the Kings first Stanley Cup run was not much of a contribution. The man was getting points in 3 of every 4 playoff games he was playing. - TheUltimateJet

The Jets should be in win now mode, yes, but they are not one trade away from contending. It would be better for them to be patient and let the kids come in than it would be to swing for the fences by emptying the cupboard.
Unless Heinola and Samberg are allowed to take the ball and run with it RIGHT NOW, the Jets will not be close to a Cup run this year, no matter what you do. A forward will not make a difference unless it’s McDavid or MacK. The transition game is still dead in the water. |

Mike Richards was very much a passenger for the 2nd cup win. So no, they didn’t win. They just had a team that can win in spite of trading a B+ player for a B- player that declined into a C |

Gimme a break. I'll empty the cupboard and trade for a top pairing defenseman tomorrow and they would have the best defense in the canadian division. Along with the best top 6 and goaltender, the only true weakness they have we both agree on is coaching.
Yikes all this praise for the Jets, you got me talking like Jetsnation |

I am sure that guys like Wheeler, Stastny, Scheifele, Connor, Laine, Ehlers, Morrissey and Hellebyuck are all sitting around the locker room and saying, “you know what, I am really excited about that Perfetti kid. When he comes into his own this franchise is really going to be something! In the mean time we will just be placeholders until that happens.”
There is something psychological about trading for a player that can make an impact RIGHT NOW, especially if it does not involve trading away an active roster player. The GM would essentially be telling the locker room, I believe in you guys and go get that cup!

One stat that a friend of mine pointed out tonight and not being discussed here is Scheifele’s ice time. The man played 26:21, and that’s only in the first game!
It's going to be a long season for my man! |

They still wouldn’t have anywhere near the best blueline, but it would make a significant dent.
If you drop, let’s say, Pietrangelo on that blueline right now for the sake of the example, you now have 2 regular defencemen who can carry the puck. DeMelo being the other one. That’s still not good enough, and the defensive side of things would still be wonked. |

Yes. I do think that, actually. Perfetti is a very intelligent, very high level young player. Already projected to be a borderline 1C at the low end. The core guys won’t be hanging their hat on his arrival, but they know he’ll be help.
To address the second part... there’s also something deeply psychological about trading for an impact player and still missing the playoffs |

Jets have lots of cap space come the trade deadline. If the Jets are in a good position in the standings at that time Chev will make the move. In a budget-constrained hockey world, why waste the money now. There will be lots of high-end cheap rentals available at the deadline.
As for Perfetti, I don't see him being much of a difference-maker for another two years. Moose this year and then will wean into the lineup next year. Then a regular 2nd line center in year three. First-line center by years 4-5. Consider Nathan MacKinnon. He didn't hit stride till year five. Same goes for Scheifele . |

This team is not missing the playoffs. This team is going to win the North division, despite suspect coaching. If you pay attention to the advanced stats like you say you do, you will realize that 6 of the 7 teams in this division all finished relatively close to each other in high danger scoring chances against, meaning that none of these teams can really play defence.
The Jets will win due to the other 6 teams not knowing them that well due to limited playing time against. The Jets are also built to play in the very tough Central division, which the other teams are not. They also in my opinion have the best top 6.
This is a unique opportunity for the Jets. Never will they get as much national media coverage as they will this year. It would be really nice if they made a bold move to add another impact player on their roster to capitalize on this situation.
Jets also have the X-factor in Hellebyuck. So in my opinion, regardless of coaching, this team will win the Canadian division. The last time I made this type of declaration was before the 2017-18 season and I distinctly remember being told I was crazy then. |

During the intermission of last night's games the HNIC broadcast highlighted players and game show hosts? who passed away in 2020. Hawerchuk was not mentioned. Incredible!

We struggled to create offence, which the other teams did not. Only Detroit created less. We just have crazy shooting talent.
You really overestimate this team based off of their performance in the last two years. League average goaltending would put us in the 28-31 range |

Going with Ultimate here once again. Rexy, your just embarrassing yourself on here with your complete lack of hockey knowledge. I've watched Ross and several other posters on here school you over and over, and yet still rely on the same old crutches despite being proven wrong 95% of the time. Even a 5yr old could offer a better opinion... and with much more accuracy.

Further to this: 2021 could be the best opportunity for this franchise to win the Stanley Cup and the more I continue to write this narrative, I am convinced that we need to empty out the cupboards and bring aboard some impact pieces to really solidify the long playoff run we will be on!
I am going to I write this down:
Winnipeg Jets 2021 Stanley Cup Champions

Here comes jetsnation with the personal insults because he hasn’t been able to read the number on a players back since the Vietnam war.
Say something of substance. You’re the only person on this board that never actually makes a point. You just show up and tell people they’re wrong, insult them, then act like you know what you’re talking about |
