Scheifele played 26:17 this game. It’s only the second game of the season and the man is already averaging over 26 minutes a game. We need to get another center to take the pressure off. I was happy to see Ehlers get 16:58. Just disappointed he did not the hatty that I was predicting. I did predict that Toronto would score only two goals and they would have, had we not pulled our goalie.
Such a disappointing loss. Two highlights were seeing: 1. Ehlers finally being put on the same line as Connor; and, 2. Logan Stanley’s debut. |

I never thought I’d make this list, but here are my 3 favourite Jets dmen tonight:
1: Forbort
2: Stanley
3: Niku
Forbort is just solid. I also found when Stanley wasn’t trying to jump or pinch, and chilled out, he wasn’t bad at all. Niku offers a threat from the line we haven’t had since Buff left, and his defensive issues are very real but also hilariously exaggerated.
As a final note, Scheifele and Wheeler are a problem right now. Scheifele is incredibly lazy nowadays, and Father Time appears to have taken personal issue with Wheeler.
Morrissey also had a rough game, but this time it was less “comedy of errors” and more making a couple of mistakes. He’s trending up, so I’ll allow it. |

In this day and age, the “stay at home” defenceman cannot effectively exist.
You need your defencemen to be skilled and capable enough to be active in the offensive side of the game.
Do you not find it suspicious that the moment we lose our 3 most common “giveaway machines” in Buff, Trouba, and Myers, we’re suddenly spending way more time in our zone? Isn’t it weird how Morrissey’s game took a sudden nosedive around that same time? That would be because those 3 were always transitioning the puck.
Morrissey was pass first, Trouba would carry. Enstrom was pass first, Buff would carry. Kulikov was present on the ice, Myers would carry.
There is a reason the best pairing in the play-ins last year was Oleksiak-Heiskanen. That reason being because they were both incredibly active in all 3 zones, and were a perfect match of strengths and weaknesses.
Offensively, Heiskanen was very good at passing and carrying the puck up the ice, while Oleksiak was excellent at carrying into the offensive zone and attacking from the blueline.
Defensively, Heiskanen was excellent at diffusing the rush, and keeping top forwards to the outside with his speed, while Oleksiak was great at stopping players at the blueline to force dump-ins, and breaking up the cycle in zone.
They were perfectly tailored to play with one another. This is why you suddenly saw Oleksiak go from an okay bottom pairing bruiser, to a genuine player. Trouba leaving is the reason Morrissey suddenly looks worse, and why he stayed that way until DeMelo kicked Poolman off the top pairing.
Josh Morrissey is not an elite defenceman. He is not a peak Karlsson, a 2014 Doughty, a Letang, a McAvoy, or a Hedman. He is not an all-encompassing super talent that can carry any partner. If you put him with a poorly matched partner of lower skill, he will play down to that level.
This is why I think Niku will be good for him. Morrissey is by far the superior player, but Niku’s single greatest skill is Morrissey’s single greatest weakness: carrying the god damn puck - Rexypoo
How this discussion went from "Morrissey can't carry the puck" to this tangent I don't know, now you're saying Morrissey is a stay at home dman I guess, strange they use a stay at home dman on the powerplay.. Lol..
Samberg is a stay at home dman, not much offense to his game, guess he won't be able to effectively exist.
Wait so the same Tyler Myers that you repeatedly said was terrible was actually good at something, that's interesting.
Oleksiak is big, strong and skates fairly well which is why he's useful, he works with Heiskanen cause its the type of pair that have been put together for years, offensive puck mover with a stay at home defense first dman.
WOW what a shock that Morrissey looks worse going from Trouba as a partner to Poolman, thanks for pointing that out Captain Obvious.
Poolman isn't as good as Trouba, think we all know that.
Yeah Morrissey isn't at the level of Hedman, prime Doughty, Letang, etc but NO ONE said he was.
Morrissey can carry the puck fine, what he can't carry is Niku, I was cheering for the Sami but he's quickly showing he's not an NHL dman, if he doesn't improve extremely quickly he'll be banished to the taxi squad and if someone claims him oh well. |

I can’t stop talking about how good he is. Hopefully they play him over Bealieau once everyone is healthy.

Ehlers only got 16:58? Should've gotten 19 minutes at least! Our bottom six is still useless, shave a minute or two off of them and get Ehlers some more ice time!!!
Only game two but Stastny and Wheeler are looking every bit their age, remind me if you don't mind, is Wheeler typically a slow starter every season? He looks like he's a step behind his linemates, I'm sure he'll get better, just can't remember if this is his normal type of start or not.
Agree might need another center, convince Roslovic to sign and reunite the 2015 line!!
Gonna need those young legs in this compressed schedule! |

Another coach who assembles three scoring lines and doesn’t run 55 into the ground would help as well.
Maurice is killing me, he is literally that mouse that keeps get zapped but he keeps going back foe the cheese.
Some tweaks to this lineup could do so much

The sooner Maurice runs
Morrisey-Demelo
Forbot-Heinola
Samberg-pionk
The better!!!!!!
Next in line,
Poolman
Niku
Stanly

LOL! A year ago you were telling everyone Niku was a top 4 dman for the Jets, now you're done with him. - BWJumper
Fair comment.
I usually look at the positive side of things and without Myers, Trouba, and Buff on the PP , I thought Niku with his offensive abilities might be able to take the reins and be a top-four. However, I definitely do not have that view anymore. Niku is a complete mess on defense this year and does not deserve to be in the lineup. Heinola is already a much better Dman than him and we are now seeing a lot of promise in Stanley. DeMelo will be back and so will Poolman. Its bye bye Sami very shortly.

I thought the Jets lacked the passion that they had in the Calgary game. I think Laine and Poolman both add a lot of passion and drive to this team. Both need to be back in the lineup ASAP. Add those two players and deduct Niku and the Jets would have won tonight. |

I like Poolman, even put him on my heritage blue jersey. I just want to see Heinola amd Samberg right now, think they both need to play now. I’d have Poolman 7 though, ahead of niku, Stanly and Beaulieu.
Also, Samberg can play PK |

So, you’ve done the following:
- appealed to authority by citing coaching decisions on Morrissey and Samberg
- dropped a wrong evaluation of Samberg
- made reference to an old cliche of incomparable examples with your defensive pairing bit, which also ignores everything I said about Oleksiak-Heiskanen and casually dismisses all of their respective attributes, even though the pairings you’re referencing are usually massive carry jobs by elite defencemen (Methot-Karlsson, Lindell-Klingberg, Alzner-Carlson, etc.)
- attempted to gaslight the Morrissey partner bit while not acknowledging any of the reasons I provided as to why Morrissey needs a specific type of partner or his limitations
- levelled a random attack on Niku, who actually outperformed Morrissey in a shaky showing tonight, for apparently no reason |

I responded to your random tangent you went off on, have you even watched Samberg play?!! The guy isn't an offensive dman. You brought up that cliche pairing, don't hate on it cause its reality!
Niku outperformed Morrissey tonight, only you'd come to that conclusion Rexy, only you. |

A: yes, I have. He’s very much an effective offensive player. Just because his strengths lie in his ability to defend and slow down the game does not mean he is not also already a better offensive player than most of our blueline.
B: the cliche is a reality, but the Oleksiak-Heiskanen pairing does not match it at all, nor should anyone want a pairing that matches said cliche.
C: I cannot account for your evaluation abilities |

All I saw from the Jets today, was what I saw numerous times last year. A team that gets out-chanced, has terrible special teams, a bottom six that doesn't contribute and relies on their goaltender to stay in the game. |
|
|
|
Wow, I thought the Jets would be middle of the pack in the division, but they looked awful tonight
Leafs can’t keep letting these bottom-feeders hang around in games though. That’s two straight games they’ve outplayed the opposing team badly and only won by a goal or two. Gotta take advantage and blow these teams out

Morissey - DeMelo
Forbort - Pionk
Stanley - Poolman

Samberg
Niku
And get heinola some ice time with (Moose?) Late season call up, playoff pickup for Jets.

If it's a good version of said cliche who cares, if it works it works!
Oleksiak was traded for a measly 4th round pick twice, there's decent dmen that have been acquired for what's essentially nothing yet the Jets never seem to be in on these minor trades while running a trainwreck D core, it's frustrating as fu*k! |

Murray for a 5th is the worst offender. We could’ve offered a 4th, and had a top tier shutdown dman |
