No no, Laine is the problem, he's just worried about Fortnight, he needs to go! - JetFuel
Hellebuyck is only here to sharpen his instincts for when he hunts the most dangerous game, humans, through the Peruvian jungle. He’s not a team player. Trade him |

I liked forbort-Pionk, that was our best d pair tonight. Niku disappointed, I am torn between giving him some leash and hopefully he settles down, or, just moving on.
Morissey - DeMelo
Forbort - Pionk
Stanley - Poolman
Beaulieu
Samberg
Niku
And get heinola some ice time with (Moose?) Late season call up, playoff pickup for Jets. - 2.0
I agree. I wasn't that impressed with Niku tonight. He wasn't the worst but I don't see a spot for him if he keeps playing like that. What keeps him around is his offense and that he's a left defenceman that prefers the right.
Beaulieu was probably the worst. He keeps on trying to hit a home run with the hits, misses and then is out of position. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he was playing the right side most of the night when he normally plays the left.
Stanley looked great out there. He kept it simple and used his strength to win puck battles in the corner. He looks like he deserves a longer look.
Maurice won't see it this way but I have the defense when everyone is healthy as:
Morrissey/Demelo
Forbert/Pionk
Stanley/Poolman
Samburg/Niku
Heinola/
Beaulieu

1) Was pleased with Stanley's debut, but it's a one game sample.
2) Beaulieu has not looked good. Possibly trying to do too much.
3) Not at all impressed with Niku. Would much rather see Heinola or Samberg get a shot.
4) Waiting for Appleton to show me something.
5) Would rather see Harkins develop than watch Perreault
6) Wheeler needs to give us much more, Scheifele feeds off of that.
7) Some bad passes and tough bounces on the power play
8) Forbort has been a nice surprise.
9) Memo to Roslovic - in this game, a player is often an injury away from getting a big break. You may have missed one.

Game Time Questions for tonight:
1. Over/Under Scheifele playing 25 minutes.
2. Ehlers, will he get a hattrick?
3. Logan Stanley, my man, is he going to get another chance?
My answers:
1. Over, Maurice has 0 confidence in this forward group. Stastny and Wheeler are really beginning to show their age. Hoping that Scheifele does not get an injury. He's already playing playoff minutes and its only the 2nd game of the season.
2. Ehlers will get a goal. The man needs to play at least 18 minutes/game. Playing him less is criminal.
3. Maurice makes wacky coaching decisions, so who knows?

Like someone above said, the Jets didn't play with passion last night - the passion that's needed on a nightly basis to win in the NHL.
If all d-men were healthy I would go with:
Morrissey-Poolman
Forbort-Pionk
Stanley-DeMelo.
Heinola, Samberg ready to jump in.
Like to see the following lines tonight:
Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Vesalainen-Stasnty-Ehlers
Copp-Lowry-Appleton
Gustafsson-Thompson-Harkins
Morrissey-Pionk
Forbort-Heinola
Stanley-Beaulieu
Beaulieu in because of necessity unless
Samberg can play right side. Might have to
switch Forbort and Heinola
Tonight - Perreault, Lewis, and Niku out, Heinola, Vesalainen and Gustafsson in!
More time for Ehlers on power play. Really like to get a look at Vesalainen! |

Niku out.....no kidding. Hopefully for a while. I like your lineup but I'd like to see Appleton and Harkins switched.
Jets in a marathon now , so switching these guys up through this 9 game slog is key.

Love the memo to Roslovic. He needs to realize the reality of his situation and Covid and sign an RFA at which point maybe he gets a break or gets traded. Agree with every other point here. |

Honestly other then Harkins the entire bottom 6 could be flushed and replaced, so much unproductive dead weight there. |

Heinous is probably already our best D, if not now, he will be by years end. And Samberg will absolutely be better than Stanley
IMO anyway |

This is what happens when you have 2 lines with not one shoot first player between them in a system that emphasizes not being fast or applying pressure |

Stanley is a beast and I am so happy he's on our team. When I see big Logan Stanley, I see the future! He's like an Herculean Jet.
Go Jets Go!
By the way: Jets take Ottawa tonight in 6-5 game. Connor and Ehlers get 2 a piece. |

I liked Stanley in his first game. I’m happy Stanley had a good first game, and I hope his surprising me with goodness continues.
However, I do need to point out that he didn’t show anything more than bottom pairing survivability, and is soon to be 23 with this one (1) game being the first sign of NHL potential since he was drafted.
Let’s temper our expectations, and acknowledge that both Heinola and Samberg are dramatically better players that need to be in the lineup over Stanley. |

Stanley was better than expected the first game, without question.
However, let's not make him into some kind of savior yet, it was only game one. Hopefully you're right, but to me, the jury is still out.
Certainly would be nice to see that 6'7" body on the blue-line for years to come. But let's wait - and see. |

I find it interesting that Huddy and Flaherty have been with the Jets in their respective positions longer than Scotty Bowman was with any team. Maurice has been here almost as long.
Crazy that this coaching staff with 1 year of getting past round 1 in the last decade has a longer leash than the man everyone likes to reference on here. |

And other teams have changed coaching staffs like a clock changes tomes.
Similar results. |

Can't question Flaherty, although it's hard to say if Helly's development has anything to to with him or not.
Huddy is a different story.

Do teams usually go from missing the playoffs, to conference final, to 1st round bomb, to missing the playoffs again in a 4 year span after a 7 year rebuild? |

We didn’t have truly stable goaltending until we ended up with a tandem that had their own shared goalie coach entirely unrelated to the Jets organization |

Why does everyone have to be so negative about Logan Stanley?
I see Zdeno Chara v. 2.0. Written all over this kid! I would much rather lose Demelo or Pionk in the expansion draft than the future.....

Chara was already a sophomore playing top pairing minutes at 22.
Pionk is a 4/5 defenceman, and DeMelo is a 2/3. They are both vastly ahead of Stanley, and Stanley is roughly a year and a half from his peak. |
