He made comments about how Jake must view playing defense is above his pay grade. Something a long those lines. Among other things. |

Bill, you state 7-2 victory. - leon neon
“ The Flyers opened the season with 6-3 and 7-2 victories over the Penguins, although never were textbook performances.” |

Sielski says he thinks it's from the article he wrote early last season about Jake laughing while AV was chewing him out in the room. |

Couts getting hurt has everybody concerned, but hopefully it's not a major issue and he's back on the ice soon? People on this site have been asking when and if Frost will get in the lineup, so I guess that's a moot point now?
Hey Bill, The big question is if Couts is out for a while, who replaces him and what will the lines look like?
Hart bailed the Flyers out a bunch of times the last two games, but I think our team defense will improve.
On a happy note: The Flyers just hung 11 goals on the penguins in 2 games. Keep it coming! |

Sielski: "[Voracek] considers diligence in the defensive zone outside the scope of his role and above his pay grade – a rich attitude for a player who is scheduled to earn $8.25 million annually for the next five years." |

Some more context about the dust up between Jake and Sielski:
https://www.crossingbroad...easel-who-writes-f-s.html - Sublime55
I think Jake’s comments to Sielski has more to do with recent events than old ones. We just won a couple of games by a far margin, and Jake just came up big tonight, when he didn’t offer much the night before. I think Sielski is grasping at straws because G and James seem fine. Did Sielski attack Giroux or JvR during their playoff run, when neither showed up? |

You take the 4 points and run. It’s nice to have a goalie who can steal games. It’s nice to have the depth to score goals across the lineup. G looks quicker, the right players are getting points to get off to a good start. Patrick looks good.
Bottom line, Pens couldn’t will themselves to win after losing game 1 and our #1 center being out. Malkin was MIA, even Crosby wasn’t really noticeable, so their depth guys are leading the way? That is not their formula for winning |

I thought overall this was one of the worst games I've seen the Flyers play in a while, and very reminiscent of how it looked when they played the Islanders in last season's playoff series. The Flyers played slow, sloppy and at times downright stupid. Yet, they won their second in a row. I am not sure how much I should chock this up to no pre-season games and early season adjustments, but make no mistake, Carter Hart was the only reason the Flyers won these two games. The Flyers were badly out-skated, out hit and out-chanced by the Penguins in both these games, so its something we need to watch for as the season goes on. I am really hoping Couturier can come back quickly since without him the Flyers do not match up well with the better teams in the division, and you could clearly see last night what a difference it makes when he is not in the lineup. And Bill, I don't know who is keeping the stats for these NHL games, but I counted WAY more than 0.5 turnovers from Voracek last night, though he was not the only player making bad decisions last night. |

Crosby scored 2 goals in 2 games and dominated in face-offs, not bad for someone that is not noticeable.

My decades-long lament is they still do not have the overall team speed to out-chance and win puck races with the faster clubs. If they make it to the finals, it will take a Vezina-like season by Hart |

Interesting note about Couturier's injury. He got hit by McCann early on his left shoulder and went lightly into the boards. Then on the bench after the shift he was complaining about his right shoulder, so I am wondering if he actually hurt his shoulder before this game even started? |
