Not if you're offended as easily as half this board - Tfaehner
Half the board? Or half the posts on the board?
Btw, I could be wrong though I very rarely am: was it not you who was offended that I dared suggest that players who were leaving infants to go in the playoff bubble did not deserve as much sympathy as they were getting here? I seem to recall that you were offended that I was daring make this suggestion since we don't have kids ourselves.
This would be back in July/August

York could potentially join the team after his NCAA season but I wouldn't rely on him as a top pairing player right away. - MJL
I hope you’re right. He may be an All-star in the future, but not sure if he’ll be ready for playoff hockey this season. Plus I think there is something to be said about rushing kids into the NHL. Some can handle it and it hurts other.
I believe there’s got to be an option for a good defensive-defenseman, maybe not true line 1 (line 2) but better than our options. More defensive guys tend to be cheaper in a trade . We don’t need a superstar puck handle when he’s paired with Provy. |

More of this bullish!t from you?
Enough already!
You annoy the best writer on all things Flyers, call Voracek dumb as a post, and spew your Progressive political views on a hockey board, unsolicited.
Really?!?! Who is dumb as a post now?!?!
You hide behind a keyboard because you lack the guts to say any of this nonsense in person, which is the real mark of a coward.
I can stomach those that disagree with what I believe, as long as you are not an a$$hole about it. You however, are not afforded the same courtesy due to you arrogant, pompous, and smartest guy in the room attitude.
I have an acronym for you. It’s STFU!
...and by the way, I’m not the kind of guy who hides behind a keyboard. I can back up my positions, any time.
I’ll take my ban now, as I really don’t post often, but sometimes, kabongs like you need an attitude adjustment.
Now, for the rest of you who prefer to talk only about hockey, and respect others’ viewpoints, I salute you all. There are some very good posters here, even ones whom I disagree with, but that’s what makes a debate interesting. Thank you for that.
And Bill, no worries bud, you’re the best, you’re appreciated immensely, and I have your back!
Keep up the great work! - Hokeeguy9
Good grief.
Look here, my man, this is the nth time you have made these bizarre posts to me on here, so let me clue your pea-brain about a few things.
1. I did not annoy Bill. It's all part of the give and take.
2. I do believe Voracek is somewhat dumb. I have long suspected it. But take heart that I am not insulting him. Because compared to you, he is a genius.
3. I don't need your solicitation to offer my progressive views. Lest assured they will continue, in full force, as long as I am so inclined. Part of the reason I do what I do is to give rats like you the message that sports is not a safe space for practicing your Neanderthalism. Societies evolve even if you can't.
4. As for your kind offer to tango in person, I have to regretfully reject it. The reason is this: like sex in the shower, it has never worked for me, even in my younger days when I was less rational. Because either I beat the crap out of you (and I am a big fat strong dude) and you sue, which would make me a loser. Or you beat the crap out of me and I sue for all you have, and what would I do with a trailer? Its a lose-lose situation.
Now run along, and keep up the good track record of abstinence.

The defense looks exactly what we should all have expected. We lost Niskanen and because of this fact, we’re a much weaker team. Personally I didn’t like the defense in either game but I think they’re working well with what they have to work with, if this makes sense. Just be happy that Carter Hart just might be legit. - SuperSchennBros

Oh I like Johns Roast Pork as well. Not as much as my younger days, but its certainly a Philly treasure. Did you see the Barstool video I posted a few days ago to Kingkenzo where they claimed another place far exceeds their cheesesteak? (ANgelo's)

Whats your theory behind this?
Mine is this: When the other team is playing disciplined team D themselves, Flyers forwards are not good enough to crack the shell. They are kept to the outside. They get frustrated and get out of position trying to do too much. And the D starts to pinch, and also starts taking short cuts.
But the bolded part is the essence of the matter. That's where the dominos starts to tumble. |

Some of you see it as no more than a cuss word on live tv. God bless you, more power to you, I am the last guy to be upset by that, though it should probably be avoided.
I saw it as a power imbalance move. I might be barking up the wrong tree here, buts lets at least get on common ground about the source of the objection. Mine wasn't based on sensitivity to profanity. - PT21
It is certainly a power imbalance move. One side, the media, which in my opinion is the most powerful entity in this country, was called out for once again making up a false story in order to generate a headline.
You come from the side who sees the media as an all powerful benevolent God who can do no wrong, so Jake calling the media a name offended your belief in your God. After all, how can anyone question the veracity of the media?
Even after Bill described what happened in detail you continued to push this narrative you had in your own head that the incident occurred at a team address by AV where Jake snickered at something being said by AV. This because there is no way you can envision a member of the sacred caste being inaccurate or pushing a false story to make someone look bad. That never happens in your insular academic world.
Even after Bill explained what happened again you still had to qualify yourself with a "Very good point, which is relevant if true" as if you just cant bring yourself to take Bill's explanation because for you it HAS to be the way you envisioned it in your head or else.
Yes, it is a power imbalance for sure, it was one guy fighting back against an inherently dishonest profession who has traded truth telling for revenue generating, and you don't seem to care about that as long as it benefits your side, which just happens to be their side.

Relatively. My stance was its hard to compare if you don't have kids which you recognized to a point. I personally find it near impossible to leave my daughter and have felt severe pain of homesick even when you just leave for a day. And I don't blame any player who wanted to get back home or opted to go home to them. |

You raised some issues...
This one, regarding the story in hand: There are ample opportunities for other interpretations. Maybe Sielski misunderstood. Maybe he was careless. I don't see the evidence of bloody malice in the guy or the incident. And, even if there was, there are other avenues to take up cudgels. This is the case in hand.
About the larger issues: the notion that you would find the current, extremely precarious life of a sports journalist to be empowered is of course, indicative of your spectacular cluelessness about life outside the bubble you live in, which is why you resort to fantabulistic conspiracies that would make educated 6th graders laugh, from the inflation in Covid #s to Antifa in disguise storming the Capitol.
I have taught many, many students who have gone on to become journalists. It pays like poop except for the very few at the top. They have very little power. Media in general may have power, but it is not much, and individual journalists who are not stars have almost none.
Yet we rely on them to report on wars, and famines, and coups, and corruption all over the world. They go embedded with troops in war, except they get far less protection, and far less financial privileges (pension, college aid etc.). They are assassinated in Russia, dismembered by Saudi Arabia, routinely kidnapped in Asia.
There would have been no Watergate without journalists. No Pentagon Papers. No My Lai massacre. No knowledge that the US was wiretapping its own citizens as well as Angela Merkel. I am merely talking about a few incidents of in this country of the past few decades of the top of my head. There was once a time when Cronkite was called the most trusted man in America. He was a journalist.
Guys like Sielski work for a paper that has gone from routinely vying for Pulitzers to selling their historic house to working from 1 level on the Market St. Mall. The paper has changed hands constantly. It is now owned by a non-profit. Twitter and the like have decimated the industry.
Is it perfect? No. Does it have biases? Sure. But if they were not there, would these problems be remedied? What entities would you rely on to bridge the gap between actual events and the population?

So I did remember correctly. But eh, weren't you being a little...sensitive... in reacting the way you did to my position? After all, in today's world, most knowledge is abstract and 2nd hand. You don't have to live something to talk or have an opinion about it.
This board is living example. How many of the passionate posters here are/were NHL players? |

So, I am curious, when we talk about anything at all, what would happen if someone claimed the exact same non-transferable singularity of experience for themselves?
How will a court ever be able to judge anyone's suffering or pain or pleasure if the judge/jury has not felt it themself/ves? How can you balance priorities for policy as a public official if you can never relate to the specific circumstances of misery/suffering? |

I’m one of the few who still gets the inquirer delivered daily. I’m disappointed with the way the sports section has grown more and more sensationalistic (if that’s a word?) and just mean spirited. I guess I understand it. They’re desperate for readers, and it is just sports, but it does leave a bad taste in my mouth. That Sielski story about Jake laughing behind the coaches back was just bad and irresponsible reporting by a guy who doesn’t often cover the Flyers. |

How can someone with such a superior intellect make such a simple mistake? You tell us how many people you have taught, how smart you are, and how dumb we all are, yet you can not proofread your own writing and fix a simple spelling error. Instead of admitting you made a mistake (God forbid!), you double down and try to insult the individual who pointed out that you are nowhere near the perfect, indefatigable intellectual that you claim to be. Also, there needs to be a comma after "Oh" in your response to my question, but I bet you knew that. |

The Inquirer has made its bed and deserves to rot - KINGKENZO
I see your insight on this subject persists in its quality from the last time we talked about it.
Especially manifesting itself in the claim that the Inquirer made its own bed. It did not. Any more than the Chicago Tribune, (now desperately trying to stop itself being sold to a Hedge Fund) did, nor the LA TImes (saved by a billionaire doctor) nor Washington Post (saved by Bezos) nor Newsweek or the City Paper and the Welcomat (not saved by anyone, the last 2 you will recall used be in every corner of downtown Philly just 20 years ago).
What made the bed for them is social media, and an idiot population, and brutal Anglo-Saxon style capitalism. French and German newspapers did not meet the same fate.

Its called a typo.
The times I have poked people for errors like that, they were systematic (hence not typos), like Angus, who constantly used to say "your" for you are, and login, who used to say complimentary for complementary.
Those are repeated, systematic errors.

oh boy, you fail to grasp the simplicity of my statement. Regardless of the landscape that newsprint media faces, they are responsible for the content they produce to the public. The content of news service is substandard and their columnists offer nothing but agendizend commentary. This is the bed they made, on their on volition. It has fallen from grace and become a rag.....it can rot
