Look at the second word of the post of mine you quoted. Do you understand what hyperbole means?

I suggest you use the time available for your non-response to attain some appreciation of nuance.

- PT21

Hyperbole or not. Bringing what you brought into it was completely classless and inappropriate. Perhaps you need to attend some kind of class similar to one of the type that you repeatedly bring up in self aggrandizing.

I also don’t think that it was just one incident. Seems like this guy bashes Jake whenever he gets the chance. I have no problem with it.

Voracek himself tweeted about it subsequently. It was entirely about the locker room article last season. The other stuff didn't linger, because having your game criticized goes with the turf. Having your character implicity called into question (for no real reason) is a bridge too far.

I don't even think Mike intended to imply that. He was just straining to write a column (from a totally mundane, innocuous situation in reality) and didn't put much thought into how the column would be received.

Mike last night didn't grasp at first why Jake went off on him like that. So he wasn't TRYING to write a hit piece on Voracek's character but the article came off that way to some; Voracek first and foremost but also to reporters who were in the room and stunned the next day to see what had been seemingly implied.

At any rate, that's the last I will say on it. Practicd day tomorrow, games on Monday and Tuesday.

Mike turned a complete innocuous, mundane moment -- two teammates gabbing and sharing a chuckle over something -- and turned it into an implication that Voracek was being insubordinate or was indifferent that the team was a funk at the time; neither of which were true.

Last not was their first interaction since then. Would I have preferred if Jake got Mike's number the day the story ran, told him off over the phone and been done with it? Yes. But that article shouldn't have been written in the first place.

Charlie O'Connor, Dave Isaac and I were all in the room that day. AV calling out his top players was the story there (and AV wasn't saying anything to us that he hadn't already communicated to the players). The story was NOT that Voracek happened to be on the other side of the room, amiably chatting with a teammate after practice.

- bmeltzer

Btw, Bill, I wonder if you realize that you have perhaps indirectly corroborated Sielski's story.

You claim that Sielski was inaccurate in claiming Jake was indifferent to AV chewing out his top players (above bold)

So, if he was not indifferent, why was he sharing a chuckle with JVR, however innocuous, when AV was speaking?

You can't have it both ways.

Take into account the context here. A writer covering a sport is entitled to write that a player played poorly. Or made a mistake. That's fair game. What he wrote is not without direct evidence.
- MJL

*What* Voracek was or was not laughing about is very much in question.

And Sielskis 'was it or wasn't it' line was more appropriate for a gossip site.

LMAO. An 8 year old could figure this out but a scholar and an academic can't. Perhaps JVR said something funny to him? Just maybe?

That corroborates Sielski's story? That's idiotic.

I didn't corroborate a damn thing. If it was newsworthy every time a player smiled or chuckled after practice the day following an ugly loss there'd be dozens of those stories every season.

Mike was struggling for an angle on a column and turned something totally mundane into something sensationalist.

He is a veteran writer, and his column was ill-considered.

The real question is how did NBC Sports allow Voracek’s profanity laced comments to be broadcast live and in it’s entirety? Sielski is guilty of poor reporting. I don’t blame Voracek for being pissed, but it doesn’t really excuse his behavior. He knows, as do all players, that they need to behave a certain way during live on air interviews. He could have gotten his point across without all the cursing. Not sure who was asleep at the wheel for NCBSN.

Jake can't say good morning or Merry Christmas without an f-bomb . Neither can Wayne Simmonds, except around kids or when the cameras are turned on. Jake can't turn on the filter.

I thought it was inappropriate to write that column without proper context. I also think it was inappropriate for Jake to air his grievances in public also. It’s also incumbent on Sielski to clear the air with Jake in private and if as Jake alleges he hasn’t, it reflects even more poorly on the writer. The original story reeks of yellow journalism...the public deserves better.

Be "emotional" in private. What is he, a woman approachimg PMS? Emotional? This is his (frank)ing job.

What he did was unprofessional amd pulling rank since he knows Sielski cant call him out for *his* shortcomings on the job. Does Sielski have kids?

Hope the league teaches him a good hard lesson. A 1 game suspension is what I would love to see.

I find it funny people are worried about Voracek saying a curse word when they watch movies where people are killed for entertainment.

Joe Pesci had to invent words around kids on the set of Home Alone cause all he does is curse.
