Dude, whilst I agree with “Age & experience win over youth & enthusiasm” adage, I agree. Bring the hunger, the desire to prove worth. As shown in period 1 tonight, physical play took the Canes off their game...Smith smashing everyone in his path would be destructive. Ras camped net-front would be a wonderful thing to see. Nothing to lose, everything to gain. The vets bring learning, so we don’t want to lose that, necessarily, BUT setting the tone for the season as a changed team via physical play would pay dividends. - mcmastermike1968

Second period notes are up. Much better looking Wings squad tonight
2nd Period - summary - continued improvement and a Bobby Ryan goal to show for it. Zadina made a heck of a steal and a feed. Play was preceded by Detroit D interception Carolina dump in and stretching the puck all the way down the ice. Faceoffs are so much better tonight. Much better flow for Detroit, and Carolina plays are getting broken up more. |

How about; “Wings are winning & look like a different team from last game, which is a big change from last year when they looked rough against every team”?
Yeah, history shows something could go wrong, but what about the positives? Wings look stronger, more coordinated, more physical. |

What wasn’t said was the content of the call: “Hey, Jimmy. How’s my most-loyal guy? Listen, ole buddy; we wanna push for Power. You free??” |

Guys who can't score on breakaways: a Red Wings tradition since 1993. |

Observation for consideration: Larkin has the “C”. Been skating in normal Larkin style. There are some disconnects in the LARMANZZI line. Is Larkin pushing too hard to prove he deserves the “C”?
Well, crap. PK fails, fluster-cluck.
LARMANZZI CLICKS!!!!!! Larkin to Trocheck!!!!!!!
Great answer to the Cane’s PPG. |

Staal is sooooo overmatched. Coughed it up for the Cane’s 2d goal. The whole D zone play for that series was jumbled. Mickey said it best: “Should’ve never been on the Cane’s sticks.”
Just realized I’m about 10min behind, watching from the DVR 🥴😖 |

What a game. Much closer, Carolina outshot us 32 - 21. Closer margins, but Bernier a big reason Detroit was still in this
Summary of the third - an up and down period, all over the ice. The Fabbri line looked good, and was very good on the power play. Zadina’s assists on both Ryan and Fabbri goal was beautiful. He is much more physical and willing to setup a teammate than I thought when drafted. He’s hungry. Fabbri line did everything we need to give Larkin line some breathing room. Larkin with 2, gave up the chance for a hat trick to get Namestnikov on the board. Sign of a leader.
Glendening was huge on faceoffs, especially at the end. His usage with Larkin and Bertuzzi was a really good move by Blashill. Faceoffs so much better, and led to better chances, as well as better zone clearances. Everything looked better tonight. The whole team came wanting to redeem themselves. Bernier stopped 30 of 32 and gave the team a huge opportunity. This goalie tandem looks so much better.
**side note - Howard offered a job by Edmonton, turned it down and will retire. Enjoys time with the family, doesn’t want to give that up.

ill say this. this team is going to have some damn good wingers in a season or two. Zadina has looked good in these first two games. We know about Mantha/Beruzzi. And then when Raymond gets here it should be a really good group in the top six. |

Much better showing tonight, Zadina looks great, Brome is only gonna be a matter of time before he's netting a few. Mantha looked pretty lazy and disinterested. Fantastic goaltending both games, not sure they win tonight if it's Howard in net. Larkin had the game tonight he should have had last night, but it was encouraging for sure. Staal shouldn't be back there, cycle him out for someone else next game. It was good to see the top line working together a bit better, and Ryan showing some chemistry with Zadina. I don't expect them to maintain and win a lot, but it was a positive compared to how awful game 1 was. |

Absolutely. Ryan....geeze, what do you say about this kid??? Listen to his post-game w/Keats; “I took the game for advantage and I’ll never do that again.” Sign. This. Kid. Long. Term!!!!! He’s a FRANKING winner born out of adversity. He wins by overcoming his demons every day. THIS is the culture we need. Add the younger kids (Veleno, Raymond, etc...). Boggles the mind.
This game shows what can be. Refreshing play. This is a harbinger of what can be, guys. WELL PLAYED BOYS!!!! |

I’ve been following zadina like a hawk since we drafted him in 2018. I’ve always had the same gut feeling about him that I did when we drafted Larkin. It’s still to early to tell but I really felt like last year before the injury he was starting to break through and you can really see that this year just two games in. A couple times tonight he had me reminiscing of datsyuk with those steals. |

He’s definitely has the potential. Comparisons are so hard at the point, but his sniping is on par with The Great 8 at times (AT TIMES...) over the years. There’s sooo much potential. His passing, vision, & awareness are scary. His hand/eye/stick coordination are insane. He needs time to grow, and good coaching, but this kid’s someone to watch.
