Wilson isn’t anywhere close to Simmonds. Simmonds scores 30 every year or at least close to. Simmonds isn’t dirty and respected by opposing players. Simmonds was top three in power play goals most seasons. Heck, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Simmonds smack Wilson around a couple times.

That’s all good but at 5v5 they are extremely similar stat wise and if you watched him the past couple years he has a great impact on the game for the Caps. I’m not saying he was better than Wayne but he is damn efficient in a similar role outside of the PP

I agree. Not saying Wilson is a “better” player. Just in terms of the impact they have on a game, I certainly think a reasonable argument could be made for either. Especially at 5v5, since IMO Wilson is a far superior skater than Wayne ever was.

Ah, gotcha. I see what you’re saying now. I guess to me, I never viewed Wilson to be
that skilled. I see physicality & aggressiveness to be his two strongest attributes, and he manages to combine them with enough skill & skating ability to play with variety of different types of line mates.
Now of course those attributes Occasionally lead to stupid penalties & dirty plays. Again, I’m no fanboy. Just thought it was odd that he seems so unique.

I’ve seen games on root sports. I can understand your confusion in hearing someone who knows the game to puffery.

I don’t see it. Wilson is dirty, prone to bad penalties just for being a bully and less offensively gifted than Simmonds. Is Wilson a better skater? Fine, sure. That makes Simmonds even more impressive to put up the goals he has pretty consistently.

Not saying I wouldnt want him. But people forget he was a mid first round pick. He was expected to be a Jamie benn Brady tkachuck. His current role is below what they believed he was going to be. Still would take him.

Giroux was as good if not better on the PP than Backstrom as the PP QB on the half wall when Simmonds was in his PP prime.

He’s the fan favorite down here among those who really follow the Caps, and I don’t think it’s close. At least that’s the case with the fans I know.

Plus he’s the kinda guy that before Covid with shake babies and kiss hands at car dealerships and stuff. Carlson, too.

As much as we hate him and his reputation precedes him, Flyers fans would love Wilson if he played for us. Probably every fan base would.

Back to backs vs buffalo today and tomorrow. I expect hart then Elliott to start. Hope Elliott brings the game he did last year and in the playoffs.
