From the article....one reason.
-----------------------------------------------------
Porous team defence is rearing its ugly head.
The 2019-20 Canucks were one of the most porous defensive teams in the league. They were bottom-five in conceding shots, scoring chances and expected goals against.
In the offseason, we pointed that the team as a whole looked more permissive defensively despite the top-four looking better than last year.
An already leaky squad lost Chris Tanev, its best in-zone defender. Losing Troy Stecher was a subtle blow in this respect too — no Canuck defender was on the ice for a lower rate of 5-on-5 goals against in the last three years than him.
Nate Schmidt’s unquestionably an upgrade on Tanev but that’s in terms of overall value, not on the defensive front. Travis Hamonic, meanwhile, was brought in to add some defensive stability at 5-on-5 and the penalty kill but he’s fighting through the rust of missing training camp and not having played in 10 months before the season opener. Up front, the Canucks lost a quality two-way driver in Josh Leivo.
Four games in, the club’s feeling the ramifications of icing a roster that lacks in defensive quality. Vancouver’s allowed 16 goals through four games and the underlying numbers prove that it’s not just unfortunate bounces. Natural Stattrick has the Canucks dead-last among teams in allowing four expected goals against per game and it’s not particularly close. - Pacificgem
The defensive structure of this team last year was only out weighed by scoring, this year with no scoring, it's showing.

Maybe TG needs to give "NHL ready" D OJ more than 7.55 ice time? |

Vilamkai is getting 16 and from the last two games, i've haven't seen much a difference in terms of quality between the two of them.
What TG gives OJ for ice time isn't much to loss sleep over. Bigger problems then that |

Elias looks awful. I still don’t think he has an even strength scoring chance. If he ever shows up a lot of our problems will disappear.
One positive, if the teams sucks, Hughes and Elias suck we could get some relief on their next contracts. Take a step back, draft high and make a run next year. Yes that’s a good idea let’s shut down this blog until the summer |

2 SOG, 1 hit. Not too bad. - VanHockeyGuy
TG doesn't trust and OJ hasn't exactly come out like QH. |

The Av's did this for a few years....not a bad worst case scenario....I wouldn't mind some entertaining losses though haha not 5-2 beatings on the PK the whole time

We have a tendency to really follow the ups and downs of this team with full force. They haven't been good at all save one game, and neither has Edmonton, Toronto has been ok, Winnipeg ok, etc. I get that it is a shortened season but until game 10 you won't know. I think we need to see how the team plays at home when they can dictate the matchups. Green also needs to be better at finding his matchups on the road, the next 6 games should really give us a gauge on the team. We have gotten used to the quick starts the last 2 seasons. I also want to point out the letdown of intensity from the playoffs until now. As Miller said "we have to be better professionals, we get paid a lot of money to do this" they aren't satisfied so they will improve. |

The top line has two goals in four games. I know Miller was out but but when your two best forwards from last year don't have a goal it is an issue. |

Not saying he shouldn’t defend himself, was needed but still 8 games left against the Flames it might have been better if someone else had come to his aid. He opened himself up to a bigger target. - K-man25
lol this team will need to stick up for themselves if they are gonna succeed vs tougher clubs. There ain't no Brashear on this club. If The Flames keep that sh!t up they'll be 'cruisin for a Bertuzzin'!!

𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀 Faber Fire🎙
@ChrisFaber39
Jack Rathbone making his NHL debut on the #Canucks home opener is a grand slam home run.
It’ll juice the team up and Bones will bring something new to the current defence core.
Heck, go right back to Juolevi on Thursday if you want.
Hughes-Myers
Edler-Schmidt
Rathbone-Hamonic
---------------------
This is some sort of real fantasy of Faber's here. If Miller couldn't juice up the team, how the (frank) is a guy who has never played an NHL game and how is an offensive defensemen going to stop the bleeding of goals.
Let's give it a shot though. |

Good for Petey for not taking abuse but it is always the same story with Canucks. Even last night Tkachuk was going down and faking it more than a porn star . Of course we take the penalty and they score and win. My problem is not with Tkachuk but why are the Canucks not doing this first? We are always the victims . - VANTEL
True having a bit of a mean streak is a good thing in the NHL. To a point of course. We don't have much of that currently lol |

The smartest thing Petey could have done when he was cross checked from Monahan is embellished like Tkachuk did. MT is a master of getting under the other teams skin.
Canucks know Calgary play this sort of game so they should be doing it first not retaliating.IMO |

The #Flames controlled the puck for over 80 percent of the period in all situations (83.4), and 78 percent at 5v5.
That's compared to only 33 percent puck possession at 5v5 in the first period.
Big swing of momentum in the second, and a very dominant period for CGY. - manvanfan
Good thing I only watched the first period! |

Two on oh with Boeser in the first was surly a scoring chance, even though they didn’t get a shot on goal. |
