we have 2 contracts retained right now so I think we are at our limit. would have really like to not have the SAAD contract retained. Col is not up against the cap so Im not sure why we got strong armed. would really like to have one to help with trades during this year.

Teams can retain 3 contracts, so one more can be added this year and another next year after Saad is off the books.

Only 2 games in and the % may or may not improve, but me and others wanted to acquire Sorokin and Merklinins during the off season.

Well, yeah. They've let up 5 goals in each game. The numbers aren't going to look great.

Aww, maybe they should talk to Thornton, Marleau, Tavares, among others and cry that they only won 3 cups.

Kane, Toews, Seabrook and Keith can look in the mirror. The Hawks are partially in this position because the team traded the future to maximize their primes. No pity party for them; this was entirely predictable.

If Chicago were to retain some of Kane’s salary as well as take on a bad contract would a contending team be willing to part with a blue chip prospect(s) and a draft pick? Imagine Kane on Colorado on a line with MacKinnon? The Aves are stacked with prospects. Would improving their chances of a championship immeasurably, not just this year but the next three, make them consider moving one or two of Connor Timmons, Shane Bowers, Justin Barron, Alex Newhook, Martin Kaut or Bowen Byram?

Imagine Keith on Toronto’s blueline? Take a prospect and take Spezza off ther hands for Keith? Again to make it work retain some salary.

This all obviously would depend on Wirtz agreeing to lay our the money as salary compensation.

As for Toews, my fear his illness isn’t injury related that could force him to retire.

Spezza makes 700 thousand and said he'd retire if anyone claimed him off waivers yesterday

Just curious, were you one of those “fans” who complained about the team when they were winning?

It’s to allow the leafs to get away from his salary, not to acquire him.

Haven't you been keeping up? If the GM and coach did their jobs right they would win the cup every year.

The Hawks don’t have to win the cup every year, but at least try to be competitive.Having these type of goalies gives them no chance what so ever.

Like the Cubs tried being competitive 2012-15, the Astros 2014-17, the White Sox 2016-19?

Not being competitive now makes it possible to be competitive sooner rather than later.

The Wings kept their playoff streak alive about 4 more years after they had any real shot at winning the Cup. Now they're bad enough to get high enough picks to actually rebuild...though I think they're behind the Hawks in this regard.

If Toews retires based on his illness- I see Kane wanting out - same for Keith.

Don't see Bowman as the architect of a rebuild- so I see ownership cleaning house when game 56 is played.

19 & 37 is the Hawks record thus year.

Why do have Luke Hughes so low? One of the youngest player in the draft and in most rankings he´s consensus top 10 pick?
- MjulQvist

Because I am not buying the HYPE!

a) Sure mommy and daddy taught three brothers to skate, but...

I see a kid who is lot as a defenseman so far.

You wanna draft him over the other deemed I have in front of him, do it!

But, honestly despite all the quick feet action, I think if you draft you are fairly longer time to until he figures it out.

Until I see the defensive zone work as more instinctive, and aware, he ranks like Byram Bowan as a kid everyone who reads about him, is going to say they like him.
When I watched him, I honestly did not so far.

Financially I would think it's best for Toews if he goes LTIR but I don't know?

How is getting away from 700 k going to allow them to take on another 5.5M when they're at the cap to begin with?

I should have been less specific about teams and players. My point is the hawks could find a team with solid prospects and a player a team needs cap relief from and make a deal.

I usually stay away from specific deal proposals, unless done for sinister purposes with Bob because I couldn’t be bothered putting the research to make a deal work.

I am trying to be realistic in how many years I think it will take for them to be a playoff team again, legit, where it will be a constant push. Including this year....I think I am at 3-4 years.

I was very excited to see Dach....the Dach we saw precovid vs the Dach we saw in the summer was night and day. I am hopeful there will be another jump once he gets his wrist mended.

3-4 year... after Seabrook’s contract is off the books.
