Any top 5 list has to start with Sorokin. He should win the Calder AND Vezina this year! That's how good his youtube videos are!
Also, was Demko really "good enough to let Markstrom go"? Because from my vantage point, the Canucks had no cap space to pay Markstrom. So they swap in Holtby to save $1.7M, which allowed them to bring in Schmidt. Wasn't really Vancouver choosing Demko over Markstrom. If that was true, why did they bring in Holtby? |

It's way too early to make pronouncements about best young goalie. It is however great to see how many candidates there are. The Metro division looks like it will be a buzzsaw for years with this goalie talent. And you have Knight, Askarov and Wallstedt soon to join the NHL as well. What is Florida thinking about doing is the big question? |

Using the age of the goalies listed, I would say Tampa has a goalie that should top that list.
At 26 he is 3 years younger than Casey DeSmith and only 1 year older than Jarry and others.
Also, Matt Murray, also at 26 would have to be considered, using the criteria and players listed.

You just need to look at the stats the last two seasons and the answer is easy. Blackwood. Kid is doing what everyone is saying these Ranger goalies are capable of doing. Sorkin in the KHL is a beast. I have seen enough videos of him to know he is a capable NHL goaltender who is going to be great on the island. But again Blackwood the last two seasons has been performing as an elite goaltender. If you look even closer at his advance stats with high danger shots/ chances. He has one of the best high danger save percentages.
At this point in time. In my opinion. It isn't even close. It is Blackwood.
We love MB in Jersey, The last MB that got us back to back shutouts as a rookie won 3 Stanley cups for us. |

Haha. Good point. Ek's list includes 29-year old DeSmith, 27-year old Ullmark, 26-year old Elvis...but doesn't include 26-year old Vasilevsky, or 27-year old Gibson and Hellebuyck. Doesn't make much sense. He probably thought DeSmith is kind of new so is probably younger. He should have never been mentioned. Neither should Ullmark as he's been around for 100 starts already. I also don't think Mackenzie Blackwood is a secret. He carried New Jersey all year and was clearly making his case as a top 10 goalie. |

Hopefully the cobbled together defense can make things a little easier. Blackwood is definitely on the weakest team. |

You are right letting Markstom walk was salary cap related- but also related to the seattle expansion draft. A team can only protect one goalie, so the Canucks had to choose between 30 year old markstom or 25 year old Demko. I am sure they would have loved to have somehow kept both but bringing in Holtby for 2 years ( probably 1 year with Seattle grabbing him)will give Demko another year of tutelage under a cup winning net keeper. With all their young stars earning new contracts in the next couple of years I think they did what they had to do to not back themselves into a cap corner again. |

It's like asking, who is the best young right winger in the game today, then arguing that it is Mark Stone. |

Dont have all the information, but as a Hawk fan for 56 years i have the right to commemt,if Aaron Dell was available before NJ,then Stan should be fired,we dont have a legit NHL starting goalie,Delia has been great for the most part with limited NHL experience,Subban is not yet a starting goalie,i am sure the Hawks might go 1-55 if Toews and Dach dont get back soon,i see lots of good things in their first three games including teamwork, defensive play ang two solid lines, but we need Tazer and a starting Major League Goalie, what was/is Stan thinking? |

The best young d-man in the NHL is a toss up between Quinn Hughes, Proorov, Puljujarvi, and Chara. Honorable mention to JVR + Ghost. |
