2nd period summary - Jenner with a perfect wrist shot to beat Bernier early in the period. Still not much flow, but a well placed shot on the rush. CBJ opens the wings power play with a breakaway after a turnover by Hronek. Detroit sets up a really nice cycle and leads to a Mantha tying goal after a Larkin hard shot deflected by Bertuzzi’s skate. Much better PP work. That power play really gave Wings a ton of momentum. Ryan goal a result of continued pressure shift after shift. Beautiful shot. Ryan first ever Wing to score 4 goals in 3 games (must be a caveat, Mantha lit it up last year). I’m giving the team full marks for getting pucks on net and getting better pressure on the cycle. Lines were reunited and the team is feeling it. Bernier giving timely saves, and the team has backed him up.
I have to watch the third period with a blindfold, the head injury takes over with a lot of stormy weather. Hoping Detroit can close it out |

It cannot be overstated, Zadina has developed his entire game. His creativity and strength are almost unreal. |

Agreed. I’m really disappointed in manthas play. I’m catching the “I got my money” vibe from him right now. Also blashills decision to challenge that goal was horrible. Looks like we just lost Ryan too 😡 |

I guessed before yesterday’s game Wings would win 3-2 in OT tonight. I’d love to be right |

Ok, that’s awesome. I guessed CBJ would win last night 4-2 and Wings tonight 3-2 in OT. That’s pretty close. |

You know you can never be certain but I will say brome peaked my interest when we signed him and I have to say I’m pleasantly surprised with his play. Namestnikov too! Hopefully they get rewarded too.

Final summary posted.
Final Summary - Detroit was playing well starting in the third. The Texier goal (and failed challenged) reversed momentum. After the kill, Detroit really picked up play again. I am so impressed with this group and how they doin’t give up. I’d guessed before this series that CBJ would win Monday 4-2 (they won 3-2) and Wings would win 3-2 in OT tonight. The group came through in a big way. This team’s signature seems to be bouncing back and learning. Everyone is trying to figure it out. Mantha goal was nice, and will help to get him going more. I forgot he only played 4 games in 2020 after a long injury. He’s still finding his stride. It’s ok to be excited about this new look team. CBJ brings so much to the table. Seth Jones is a beast, Savard does so many things right. The Wings were able to keep pace in a very impressive way. |

That's my favourite part. This team doesn't get rattled when things don't go their way. 👍 |

We got off to a hot start last year but you can definitely feel the difference this year. After CBJ’s second goal and that horrible challenge by blash I was expecting to see last years team hit ice and when it didn’t happen I was pleasantly surprised

Just curious obviously I cannot see it happening this season, but my question to you guys is do you see mantha being moved at some point and if so when? My personal take is Raymond and bergerren have huge potential to make this team next year. That leaves you bertuzzi, zadina, Raymond, bergerren, brome, Namestnikov and mantha... I guess my question is do you guys see potential in moving mantha for a true center and putting fabbri back on the wing? It’s tough to really put a finger on what makes sense. Mantha on the roster or traded with the current slew of wingers I gave puts one of those guys on the 4th line. That’s also assuming they all make the team, but it’s hard to ignore what bergerren and Raymond are doing overseas right now.
Bertuzzi Larkin Mantha
Raymond Fabbri Zadina
Brome Namestnikov bergerren
Smith rass veleno
Now does anyone else see the problem I see with this? I know this is all hypothetical but I see real potential of this logjam happening and I see some sort of moves coming. Let me know what you guys think. |

Sorry I wasn't joining the blog during the game, worked late, cooked dinner, cleaned the kitchen, registered 1 daughter for an Irish dance comp, paid the other daughter's college tuition, drank myself into a stupor and dreamt the Wings BLEW CBJ AWAY IN OT BAYBAY!!!!!!🥅🥅🥅🏒🏒🏒
So much improvement from last year; didn't quit, calmed the play down so they had control of themselves and their playing, asserted a smart game, and minimized mistakes. Mantha got off the schnide, Ryan....Holy Jumpin' is this kid somethin' , Brome & Namestnikov clicked, Zadina did so many good things with the fore-check & smart passes, BertBuzzi buzzed, Bernie looked pretty solid. D is still suspect, tho. Staal hurts us, being honest, in the aggregate. He played ok yesterday with a few exception, but tonight was hard to watch him. Really want to see Lindstrom in. Heck, Stecher looked really good as well.
I'll repeat what I've said about Ryan many times: He has character...and is there any coincidence that the Wings aren't giving up? Now, is it solely because of Ryan? NO. BUT, you can sense how much he's impacting those around him. Sign. This. Kid. Long-term. Full Stop.
2-2 against 2 pretty good teams. Who'da thunk it?!?!?!?!? |

When Stevie first signed Bobby Ryan my first thought was that he'd flip him at the trade deadline for a 2nd round pick. But now I'm hoping we sign him for another 2 years and slap an "A" on his jersey next season after Nielsen is bought out (hopefully).
He fits in so well already and Mick mentioned how he calms things down and makes the right decisions with the puck. I never saw a leader when I watched Ryan in Anaheim and I kind of lost track of him in Ottawa with all his injuries over the years.
But this guy is a breath of fresh air to this Red Wings team and we clearly see the positive impact he's having. This team really needed some leadership and Bobby Ryan is providing it. Stevie has more than enough players he can unload at the trade deadline. I just hope Bobby Ryan isn't one of them. |

I think the Ryan we see today was hidden due to other influences. The beautiful part about that is that he owns his past, and I think it drives him to be a better player, but most importantly a better person. He's genuine, humble, and motivated. He's legit. |

I read this late last night, then had night-terrors, so thanks for that 😂😂. Seriously, in a word: YES, I see a scenario where Manth's traded; high 1st, high 2d, rostered #1 D, #1 prospect D.
You set a strong line-up there. Mantha's getting a tad older, still has usable years, legit producer (40+ goals is VERY realistic), hits like a train, booooomong shot. But it would take a team selling the D the the Wings, and that ain't happenin. The scenario above (the get for Mantha) is as unrealistic as trading him.......at this point in time. 3-4yrs from now????🤔🤔🤔🤔 |

Trade him for Laine! But you would have to add a bit to get him...and I would not pull the trigger unless you get Patrik to re-up for at least 3 yrs at $8-8.5M AAV.
Mantha + Cholo + 3rd for Laine....let's not get too crazy.

I was thinking call the Avs about Byram. Can never have to many defensemen. Hronek, Seider, and Byram would be a solid 3. |

I know I came in good faith last night and I really don't hate the wings that much but this game was so goddamn stupid. Literally every goal was a bad bounce! FFS |
