Zadorov skates like he’s wearing cement blades - haven’t seen much other than hits so far.
- StLBravesFan

I didn't see him make any gaffs or get walked wide and he played a lot of key minutes. For some D-men "not noticing them" other than the hits is not a bad thing. I give him passing marks, he delivered what we should expect, solid d-zone play and a physical presence, not Paul Coffey.

Win or lose, at least the game was fun, good hockey and competitive. Unlike the first 3 games I felt like we could win tonight. The team is certainly in a rebuild, but I still would rather look good more often than looking out-matched.

I want to see them win each game that I watch. And I watch them all.

I’ll worry about draft position in May.

I'm beginning to think the Blackhawks are doing what the Bulls did, hire an inexperienced coach who's in over his ski's. We give up way too many easy goals

His gaffes didn't end up in the net. He was better than de Haan, tho. de Haan seem intent on getting his partner killed.

Why else would Kurashev get 3 shifts after scoring. Let alone he has been a threat every shift. Or play Kane with Wallmark and Invisimark after they play a pretty good 2nd period?

Not sure what game you watched, Carpenter was excellent tonight.

Lot of guys picked it up tonight. Despite being -1 and making a couple gaffs, otherwise I thought Mitchell looked good again.

The goalie was solid, made a tremendous 3 on 1 save in OT, but his team was way better in front of him than previous games. I still say give him next start.

Not to channel PowerEnforcer here, but the Penalty on Carpenter to lead to their last goal was a crock of poop.

Zadorov with 9 hits, wow. I thought Boqvist looked a bit better tonight too. Kubalik was great.

- kwolf68

I believe the Panthers 3rd goal could have been GI. Maybe the thing is to just skate into the crease and knock the goalie out of position. Seems to work for other teams.

It would be really nice if we had some sense of urgency in OT. Sheesh. Strome, Kane and ADB just coasting into the zone.

Look at the TOI during OT.

What are Kämpf and Janmark doing out there? When you put defensive forwards on the ice, you are going to do a whole lot of defending and chasing. Not a great plan. Be aggressive, go with your best chance for a win. You have Kaner/Kurashev, Kubalik/Suter, Strome/ADB, rotate these, it is just five minutes, tops. There’s the urgency.

And it takes 2:33 before Keith even gets on the ice (despite his mistake in the end, still)

Interesting stat, De Haan, Murphy, and Zadorov all with more TOI than Keith.

Yup. That seemed like the old "playing not to lose" strategy. The thing is, the kids are all (for the most part) playing relatively responsible and creating a lot of chances.

This team is a joke. From dynasty to JV with a pee wee coach behind the bench. Trying to make sense of what JC does is pointless. I feel bad for the youngsters. Rough way to start your career on this train wreck. Hey Bowman?!? You have the GD money. Go get a legitimate starting goal tender.

I understand rebuilds but Geezus. The goaltending is going to destroy them all year.

Lankinen actually kept them in the game pretty well tonight. They still give up way too much between the circles, and still make some absolutely horrible decisions at the bluelines (I'm looking at you Kane, Strome and ADB).

They have a bunch of new faces (I think they've turned over about 1/2 the roster). Some are rookies others are not. They are not going to play well this year regardless of who is behind the bench. Chalk this up to a learning/development year and you'll actually be able to stomach the games.

Why? Because a 30 year old playing does nothing for me as a 4th liner when Highmore could play that role just as well. Play the kids, Carpenter is what he is at this stage.

The young guys are working hard and will earn a regular job if they keep it up. Hagel tonight played hard. Carpenter will be traded if another team will take him. Carpenter has been as advertised when we signed him. But jobs are going to kids as much as possible per Bowman. Veterans may sit out sometimes and just have to understand the objective is for kids to come along in the rebuild.

Thought Boqvist played a better game tonight. Played with some confidence in the 3rd after getting shook up a little in the 2nd. Still think this kid is going to be really good, he just might take longer to develop than we want.

After the Avalanche today traded NHL dmen with the Wild, the new look defense had someone else beside the newbie from the Wild. Pateryn did not play

Byram?

Positives for me:
*I liked Zadorov’s and Mitchell’s game. Both show poise with the puck and make good passes. Also, I love Zadorov’s thirst for contact.
*Glad to see #8 get a couple of tallies, happy to see him firing the biscuit at will. It reminded me of Sharp in his prime.
*DeBrincat had a nice game, he had some nice plays away from the puck. I wish he’d fire the puck more instead of always trying to feed Patrick Kane. Speaking of Kane, my goodness what an incredible backhand goal…just wow!
*Even with a new comer Hagel, the 4th line continues to be effective and contributing meaningful O-zone time.
*Shaw continues to be a beast!
*I thought Lankinen was pretty good, I liked that he was calm in net. He had an incredible save on a 3 on 1 in the first portion of the OT frame.

Negatives for me:
*Murphy continues to struggle with seemingly fundamental things. In the first period he had an issue twice with picking the puck off from along the boards, more failed clearing attempts and poor passing.
*Speaking of failed clearing attempts I must not forget to mention Duncan Keith. I admire that he still plays with speed an intensity, but sadly he is far from his Norris winning prowess. Plus this guy is really racking up the PIM’s.
*D gets caught pinching in the offensive zone too often which results in a odd man rush the other way.
*Strome was invisible... he never seems to be skating hard or with a purpose.

I'm with you Wolf. Zadorov certainly won't win the Norris but I thought he was solid tonight. He may never be spectacular or an offensive threat. I feel that he consistently defends well and is able to break the puck out.

New blog! The Blackhawks kept the pattern alive giving up 5 goals in a one-goal loss to the Panthers to go 0-for-Florida in the NHL's first week of the regular season.

Lankinen played a refreshing style, Kubalik lit it up offensively, Kurashev got his first career NHL goal, Mitchell continued to shine, and Boqvist showed improvement.
