Bill and others --
Do you have any take on our standard defensive stance?
I've watched a million Flyers games over the years, but don't pretend to be an expert on things. So I'm curious. I noticed last year and again this year, it just LOOKS to me like our defensemen (like, all of them?) are fairly lackadaisical in getting back for dumped pucks. They have good position on keeping the forwards behind them, sure, but those forwards catch up to the point where they are right behind our defensemen when they get to the puck. With that kind of pressure, the defenseman often taps it to the other defenseman, also under tremendous pressure from the forecheckers, and they get trapped around Carter Hart. (Then they try to get it to a forward, who is usually predictabley along a wall, and so prone to getting picked off.) Is it just my hometown "fan" eyes that makes it seem like we don't seem in any rush to get to the dumped pucks in our own zone (unless it's to ensure an icing --then we hustle!) compared with other teams, or is it something the rest of you see? Sure seems like it's been this way for years. - therabbi
We have had multiple coaches with different styles so it’s not a coaching philosophy.
Also players have to read the play. With that communication from the goalies or dmate are needed.
It just might be some guys better under pressure than others.
We have a lot of young guys learning the craft in the NHL so that might be part of it.
I don’t necessarily see this until they are playing poorly.
At that point I chalk it up to hesitation in reading a play. |

Their team game looks pretty solid so far (penalties aside). |

Perhaps you should clarify. Are you talking this season or in his Flyers career? - MJL
My bad, the start of this season. |

If this is the Flyers power play, maybe next time they should decline the penalty. |

I think the back breaker might have been starting what I think would be the lesser talented PP unit. Once they got what think might be the more talented unit on, instead settling things down and setting up, Provy takes a shot from the point for an easy save, destroying any opponent we had. |

I think it's clear that Coots is the straw that stirs the Flyers drink. Different team without him. |

Braun too deep on our goalie’s crease in both games. Allowing cross creases all day.
JvR really getting in on the forcheck but getting overpowered physically. Sheesh. |
