As it turns out you are wrong on everything . They could have traded Jake and signed Marky Tanev and Toffoli for the same money and term if they desired. As it urns out they did not want too.

Marky 6.0 Schmidt 5.95
Toffoli 4.25 Holtby 4.3
Tanev 4.5 Jake 2.5 Hamonic 1.2 (3.7 total and they have 1.3 in LTIR space)

That is with a 23 man roster.
