Id think Columbus would be looking for players to help out on their roster now. Lets face facts, Strome is a throw in for cap balance. Kravstov is an unknown, Lundkvist isnt going to make an impact now and the picks arent valuable at all. PLD is a strong 1B center, he is the best player in the deal, Jackets will want someone who has the potential for some upside. - Brukie
The point your missing is Strome, Kravs, Lundkvist and any player we send their way are better than a PLD who's not trying because he wants out. Even further, any guy we send their way is better than the open hole in their roster once Torts benches the guy until he's traded.
I get what you're saying, though. We can't expect to trade them garbage for a great piece in PLD. But I don't believe we'll have to part ways with our upper echelon talent in Kakko, Laf, Miller etc. |

Kravtsov Lundqvist Howden 2021 1st 2022 1st. That’s what I think realistically it takes to get it done. Maybe even replacing Howden with Chytil. - nyrangers9479
WAY too much. I'd offer that to Florida for Barkov. Barkov>>>>PLD |

I highly doubt the Jackets would agree with you. Face facts here, the rumors out there (yes who knows if they are true or not) but take it with a grain of salt, have PLD straight up with Laine. So who would you rather have Laine or Strome, Krats and Lundkvist?? |

If someone wanted Kakko, that’s not what you’d expect them to pay? Dubois is a 22 year old #1C. It’s going to cost, and it’s going to hurt. I think we’ve built a deep enough prospect pool to make a trade like this and be fine. The only thing we would have to add is someone to make the money work. |

I totally agree with what you've written here. But, I don't think it jives with your latest trade proposal.
Lundkvist, and Kravstov to a lesser extent, have the potential to nearly equal PLD's impact in a line up. You think we need to send BOTH of them AND 2 first round picks? I disagree. One of them plus Strome, plus one 1st, maybe a later round pick. I think that's a reasonable offer for someone the Blue Jackets are over a barrel with. |

the Rangers have to include either Strome or Tony D to make it work cap wise, I don't think of either one of them as an asset Columbus would like, just to facilitate the $$$ |

look I think Lundqvist is a HUMONGOUS trade chip, there are plenty of Ranger fans, Jan included, who consider him completely untouchable under any circumstance
I think Kravstov and Lundkvist is a hell of a package and then Strome and whatever kind of draft picks you'd like
if it's the 1st rounder, it's gotta be top 3 protected though, that's a must

You said it POTENTIAL, although I doubt Kravstov is coming back any time soon. Im sure the Jackets, cause I know if I was making a trade Id want, a cant miss. Lundkvist has a potential high ceiling but he is a defense man who hasnt played a game in the NHL and will not make any impact on the roster now. The Jackets need is scoring. PLD is the best player in the deal a bonafide 1B center who has the potential at 22 to be a 1A. Would you trade Mika for that package you proposed?? |

I don't even consider that hypothetical because he has a NMC |

Another thing with Lundqvist, he still isn't signed yet. And there is no guarantee that he will sign his entry level deal. Could play into it as well |

Good point, and definitely not. But that’s mostly because we are so weak at center. NYR is loaded on wing and on defense, so to trade from an area of strength to an area of weakness makes a ton of sense. From CBJ perspective, is wing/defense a need? I’m guessing center becomes an area of weakness for them as well. Chytil maybe more desirable to them than Strome if they are thinking long term.

can the rangers attach conditions to a draft pick if he re-signs after 2 year deal expires or is that not permitted in the CBA? |

yeah never seen that done, only seen stipulations where the player is a pending UFA and if the acquiring team signs him after the season

And people cant make the Mika comparisons now. They have to be done at least 3-4 years ago. And 3-4 years ago I would definitely have taken that package for Mika. |

Is the Sequin trade b/t BOS and DAL a comparable one? I would think Seguin was the better player at the time, compared to PLD. Here's that deal:
DAL: Seguin, Rich Peverley (bottom 6 kind of guy @ the back end of his career) & Ryan Button (never made it to the NHL)
for
BOS: Loui Eriksson, Joseph Morrow (Dman that barely played for the Bruins), Reilly Smith (obv a good player that the Bruins exposed and lost to Vegas) and Matt Fraser (AHL winger)
There's no way in hell I'm giving up two blue chip prospects, a good bottom 6 center, AND two firsts |

Except Ottawa did not, they took way less for him. PLD is a really nice player and Columbus should shoot for the moon for him, but I just feel like some of the asks are massive overpayments. They won't take Strome straight up and it probably would cost at least kravstov in addition, but some of these packages are what I would start asking in a package for someone like Eichel who is several times better than PLD.
I know people overvalue their own prospects, but there's no way in my mind PLD is worth that much. If another team offers a similar amount, they can have him.

If we got Dubois, I don't think the Rangers getting a top 3 pick is realistic so I wouldn't get hung up on the pick protection. |

I dont know about that, the Rangers could very well finish 7th or 8th in this shortened season even with PLD
that's why I almost want to wait until after the season, because if they won the lottery again, that's a hell of a trade chip |
