Teemu trade was made by the Phoenix group. This narrative has got to stop. The team was already sold to Phoenix when that trade was made.
Mr. Ate Me, you forgot about the Oilers. The Jets right up there now in the Canadian division. - TheUltimateJet
Fair enough UJ. Either way it’s a better return than Kilger and Teverdovsky.
As for the Oil, I think the lack of wingers makes Drai and McNugget play together and Kyle Taurus continues to suck, so I’m not that sold on the Center depth there. |

Jets got absolutely fleeced on this deal. The fact that they had to throw in a player AND retain salary is just salt in the wound
Unreal. I’m consistently impressed with Jarmo. He’s made some outstanding moves. This has the potential to be another heist, in the mould of Johansen for Jones - AxlRose91
I laugh at people with instant absolute winners or losers in a trade.
Wow, Jets retained a whopping 1.3 milliion for one year. The Leafs are paying guys 30 million to not be part of the organization this year lol.
Nashville wins easily beats the Pens and wins the cup a few years back if Ryan Jo doesn’t get hurt in semis. So does that trade look good today, no but if they win that cup, than they won that trade and Seth Jones could be one of the most over rated guys in the league |

If its just Laine vs PLD maybe it looks poor for the Jets, but its not just that.
It's Laine vs PLD and...
1. PLD plays CENTER
2. PLD brings ONE more sure year of service
3. PLD would likely save 2 MILLION or more per season on a long term deal.
Adding this all up and it's a good deal for the Jets. Not a steal, just shrewd move dealing from a position of strength. They have a much more balanced forward group now. - Pastor_Matt
You can add to that that Kyle Connor belongs on that first line so we would be paying $10 MM for a second-line winger vs maybe $8 MM for a top center playing on the second line who is 50% plus corsi.

Guys, Dubois is probably already a better Center than Sheifele so please stop suggesting he can start on the wing. |

At the end of the day the longer-term stuff is hard to predict, and yes, injuries can throw it all out of whack.
Are the Jets a better team today with PLD in the lineup ? I think so . PLD can also can log minutes that Scheifele would normally need to slog so they will both be stronger and fresher each and every shift. Yes, Jets can now roll three lines more evenly. Lots of positives here.

Interesting comments by Wheeler and Maurice.

You have to pay a premium for #1 Centers!
Great deal for the Jets. I predict that Ehlers just takes off and becomes 40-50 goal scorer as a result of this trade.
Good Job Chevy! I don’t normally say that. - TheUltimateJet
What #1 C did Jets just pay a premium for?
And don't the Jets already have a 1C in Scheifele? He's a PPG player that has two 30+ goal seasons under his belt.

So are Ehlers and Wheeler from listening to them. Where did you find the Maurice comments? |

Having two #1 centers is what wins championships. You should know that from Boston’s last cup win!

Illegal Curve reported that Maurice took responsibility for Laine’s development. |

Is it just me, or has Maurice reached his best before date with this group?

Scheifele-Dubois-Stastny-Lowry is absolutely nuts, and I’m clinging to the idea in the hopes I’ll stop crying.

Maurice reached his best before date as a coach sometime in 1998. |

Could be true, he also had a part in a young Heft O’Neill struggling. |

Sure. But I'm not convinced PLD is a 1C. Has not proven that yet.

I think he will do well away from Torts. That is if Maurice doesn’t make him the 3C |

Don’t worry Rexypoo, this is a great deal for the Jets. Ehlers will benefit the most from this deal. Always believed he had 40 goal potential. And, if rumours are true that Laine wanted 10 million plus per year, the Jets saved themselves from disaster. Could you imagine a team with half of its salary cap spent on the wing? That would be poor asset management.
Lines going forward:
Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Dubois- Appleton
Harkins-Stastny-Copp
Perrault-Lowry-Lewis

Knowing Maurice, he will make some excuse of Dubois not earning his trust and seeing as to how Dubois is only 22 years old, could easily see Maurice playing him for 5 minutes a game on the 4th line. |

Jets are set up better now and going forward. They don't have to worry about 2c now for 3 years minimum, so no signing Stastny or forcing Perfetti.
They also will definitely have 10 million in cap space next year to shore up the defense and/or add a winger.
