Well, 1 is a number, but I was thinking we had 2 or 3 others. Laine will be missed, no doubt, but I think our team is better today than yesterday. - Pastor_Matt
Don't see how that's possible, we traded the better player away. |

The same Domi that got beaten out by Kotkaniemi and Suzuki last year? Those two players made him expendable in Montreal. - TheUltimateJet
Remember when Calgary made Brett Hull and Marty St. Louis expendable?
GMs deciding things doesn’t make them right. Danault was the guy that made Domi “expendable”. Kotkaniemi was pretty bad, and Suzuki was too new to just trade out established top 6 talent for no reason. Bergevin goofed on that one. |

Are you trying to say that would be the best line in hockey?
- Nasty_Duck
Easily one of, yes. THE best? Probably not. It’s
Possible. Usually the best line in hockey during any given season does not remain so the year after. |

Today @ 1:41 PM ET
If its just Laine vs PLD maybe it looks poor for the Jets, but its not just that.
It's Laine vs PLD and...
1. PLD plays CENTER
2. PLD brings ONE more sure year of service
3. PLD would likely save 2 MILLION or more per season on a long term deal.
Adding this all up and it's a good deal for the Jets. Not a steal, just a shrewd move dealing from a position of strength. They have a more balanced forward group now.

Maurice kinda spelled it out today. He said Laine didn't mesh well with Scheifele, no chemistry there so he would have been a VERY expensive second-line winger. The knock on Laine up to this season was that he was a below-average 5 vs 5 player. I think every Jets fan can attest to that.
It's not a trade that I'm jumping for joy over. However its a deal that fits both clubs and their needs quite well.
Apparently, it was months of talks between the two clubs . It just shows how difficult it is to get a big trade done in the league. It would have even taken longer if the PLD benching had not accelerated the deal . Keka"LAINE"n likely had even a bigger ask which actually may have come down a bit. Jets didn;t want to wait till the end of the season and have another Trouba/ Roslovic type situation . Done Deal.

Two teams in Arizona and Montreal came to the same conclusion on this player. He's already been benched once by Torts. Domi's shine seems to wear off by the second season.
But you probably know more than the three organizations. |

No chemistry yet was on pace for his best season to date playing with Laine.
Laine is already a 1st line winger and Wheeler isn't.
It's done now, Jets lost the deal as per usual.
If they wanted to repair the relationship with Laine I'm sure they could've, they just chose to trade him for a guy who quit on his coach and teammates. |

For Dubois, a 3rd, and being able to send him to Trots to make him miserable.
Winnie wins. |

Saw the same thing with the Chevy interview where he stated a couple of times that the fit on the first line wasn't there.
Jets were probably lucky that PLD was available or would have had to settle for a 2nd pair d-man and prospect/pick combo.

We’ll see how good Laine does in a much inferior forward group in Columbus. I don’t normally listen to Chevy, but this morning he made a good point. Laine’s analytics were not good. Outside of the 2017-18 season where he shot an absurd 18%, he’s a traditional 12% shooter. He only averages 220 shots per year.
Also, am I the only one that found his “injury” after the first game a bit strange. He clearly did not want to be here and was not willing to accept a reduced role. I feel bad for him as he’s misreading the market and with Covid-19, he’s not going to get paid 10 million/year. He’ lucky if he gets close to 8.
I can’t wait to hear Torts comments about Laine, the first time he swings his head back after missing a one-timer. That is going to be epic! |

According to TSN, they both are. I do agree though that Wheeler should be taking on a diminished role and it does appear that he’s a bit of bully based on him admitting that he was “hard” on the young kids. |

This is something I have spoken about on this board. It just seemed off when they played together, like it wasn’t smooth. It was like crunchy peanut butter as opposed to smooth peanut butter. Both taste great, however spread very differently on toast. |

Again analytics are very meh, lots of useless data really.
I highly doubt that, he played like a beast in the first game, now you think he was faking an injury to force a trade, get real dude, Laine said today he was surprised he was traded.
He swings his head back in frustration when he misses a one timer, what a terrible player that makes him, it's so much better they traded him for a guy that quit on his coach and teammates. |

Well he got injured in the first game of the play-ins in August. Gets injured again in the first game of the season. Seems like he’s becoming injury prone then. Hopefully that fits better for your narrative.

Laine was 100% injured. I saw him in practice trying to shoot the puck a few days ago and he could barely raise the puck. Its not something you fake .

One saving grace for Laine in Columbus is that they have a better overall defensive structure and defensive corps in general. He might do better on their power play with Werenski, Jones, Gavrikov and Savard feeding him pucks from the blue line to get his one timer off more smoothly. Otherwise I do not see him doing well playing with any of their forwards.
I am excited for Ehlers in Winnipeg. I feel sad that he lost his best friend. I do think though he will become a 40 goal man now that he will be the primary focus of either the Dubois or Scheifele lines.
I am hoping that Maurice runs Dubois, Scheifele, Ehlers and Connor out there on the first unit with Scheifele taking Laine’s spot, Dubois talking Scheifele’s spot and Ehlers taking Wheeler’s spot.
This trade also gives Maurice enough rope to hang himself. If he is unable to roll out 4 lines now with all the center depth, he definitely needs to go. |

Thank you for clearing that up!
Also how did you get into the practice if you do not work for the organization? That is the real question. |

Being a Trumper/massive douche, both of which we know Domi to be, does not make Domi less of a player on the ice. |
