It boils down to Laine for Dubois.
Roslovic was only worth a 3rd round pick if he had been traded separately.

Laine wanted out and we were not likely going to be able to resign him. Jets wasted far too much time and effort trying to make him happy over the last few seasons.

Hopefully Dubois is what we hope he will be.

Laine is not going to be happy in Columbus with Torts, on a team without a high-end center.

I think we win this trade !

Your takes are funny, not long ago you were saying Laine needs to grow up and prove himself and now it's alright getting Dubois cause he'll be happy to be around his mommy and daddy... 😂
- JetFuel

If Dubois signs longer-term here because his parents live in Winnipeg then Chevy did well because I'm certain Laine won't be re-signing in Columbus. Laine has dreams of Southern California beaches and being some star in the L.A spotlight.

Also Dubois has always been a positive (+50%) Corsi player. Rexy should love him !

I think a top D man for Laine would’ve suited the Jets more than another top forward.
- Chuckywhip

Perhaps, but you have to consider that Top Dmen are rarely available for trade. Then you get into another Hall trade situation.

Wow. You are a big fan.

Yeah I am, think it'd be terribly ignorant of the Jets to give away Bryan Little's number when he isn't officially finished playing, he was a true team guy who wanted to win as a Jet, the guy deserves respect.

Why would I want to give away a team guys # to Dubois who clearly quit on his teammates in Columbus with an embarrassing effort.

That has nothing to do with what you said though, Laine is a whiny baby but it's okay that Dubois quit on his teammates cause he'll be happy with mommy and daddy.

The one year of retention matters though, the Jackets paid nothing for it AND if Goodrow went for a 1st and Lias Andersson went for a 2nd then Roslovic is worth a 2nd, the Jets lost this trade all day everyday.

Stastny and Lowry should get bumped down. Maurice has no excuses now for not rolling all 4 lines.
- TheUltimateJet

So Copp up on the wing for now, with Vesalainen and Perfetti waiting in the wings (pardon the pun)?

I might leave Dubois on the wing for this season, but either way we are like one RD d-man away from being a very serious contender now.

Day of the trade grade is always emotion-based.

This deal IMO gives the Jets a depth at C that is almost league leading and will be a huge factor especially in the playoffs.
Laine is going to be a financial problem next year and now not ours. He isn’t a $9 per and he wants $10 per

Also, top D-men in this league are GOLD and would have cost Laine +++

True grade 2-3 years from now but gut feel is Jets win this trade

Laine will be working for Torts now and his centers are Domi, Riley Nash, Boone Jenner and Giorgirenko

To say he is a PP specialist will be truer now

Get over the semantics Jetfeul. Both players wanted out and Dubios will be a better fit in Wpg than Laine will be in Columbus. Roslovic was never playing another game in a Jet uniform. End of story.

Jets got absolutely fleeced on this deal. The fact that they had to throw in a player AND retain salary is just salt in the wound

Unreal. I’m consistently impressed with Jarmo. He’s made some outstanding moves. This has the potential to be another heist, in the mould of Johansen for Jones

Has to quarantine for 14 days apparently
- grahamzky

Yeah, the whole 14-day border crossing quarantine thing ( plus leaving and re-entering the NHL players bubble) throws a weird dynamic into this trade. Laine was injured anyway, but the Jets won't see a healthy PLD in the line-up for two weeks.

That's true. I believe they said PLD will miss seven games.

Laine might have missed the majority, or all, anyways. But wow, the Jets should be a good "team" once PLD arrives.

Yeah people are right about Winnipeg’s defense. You can have all the C depth in the world but without a defense (which they don’t have) your not winning anything. Hello can only save so many pucks thrown at him. It’s not like he’s Dominik Hasek (doubt there will every be someone like him again)!

Laine will be paid 9.5-10m

IF Dubois fits into this team and accepts being here long term, it could be a win for winnipeg. Laine is the better player overall (due to the goal scoring power) right now but that's regular season. In the playoffs I'm not sold either way

Haha, the Jets lost this deal, end of story.

Wonder what you'll be saying in a couple of years if Dubois doesn't want to sign long term with the Jets.

If its just Laine vs PLD maybe it looks poor for the Jets, but its not just that.

It's Laine vs PLD and...

1. PLD plays CENTER
2. PLD brings ONE more sure year of service
3. PLD would likely save 2 MILLION or more per season on a long term deal.

Adding this all up and it's a good deal for the Jets. Not a steal, just shrewd move dealing from a position of strength. They have a much more balanced forward group now.

Time will tell who won this. Can’t be judged today.

The Jets Center depth is now second only to Toronto, but did they just trade Temmu again?

Teemu trade was made by the Phoenix group. This narrative has got to stop. The team was already sold to Phoenix when that trade was made.

Mr. Ate Me, you forgot about the Oilers. The Jets right up there now in the Canadian division.
