Is it just me, or has Maurice reached his best before date with this group?

He is in another prove it year. Last year had some built-in excuses (and all things considered the results were good)but this year is looking promising.

Don’t worry Rexypoo, this is a great deal for the Jets. Ehlers will benefit the most from this deal. Always believed he had 40 goal potential. And, if rumours are true that Laine wanted 10 million plus per year, the Jets saved themselves from disaster. Could you imagine a team with half of its salary cap spent on the wing? That would be poor asset management.

Lines going forward:

Ehlers-Scheifele-Wheeler
Connor-Dubois- Appleton
Harkins-Stastny-Copp
Perrault-Lowry-Lewis

- TheUltimateJet

I highly doubt that lineup. More likely it will be this:

Connor-Scheifele-Wheeler
Ehlers-Dubois- Statsny
Copp-Lowry-Appleton
Perrault-Harkins-Lewis

The most NHL points by a player through their age 21 season since 1990:

Crosby- 397
Stamkos- 329
Jagr- 319
McDavid- 256
Sundin- 249
Laine- 247
Lindros- 242
P.Kane- 230

P-L.Dubois- 158.....

- JetFuel

This list is skewed. Ovechkin lost a year due to the 2004-05 lockout. Furthermore, Laine played with better players throughout his career.

I am interested to see ho well he does playing with Max Domi.

I have always said that Laine was Jimmy Carson v.2.0. This trade will really test that theory.

Wow. The Jets got ripped. Don't they already have a 1C?
- redseerpf

Now the Jets have 2 #1C's. Like most cup winning squads. Now columbus has the highest risk contract extension to deal with. Laine has more than his fair share of red flags, and I would be scared if I were a blue jackets fan if any long term deal was inked.

I wish Raslovic could have remained a Jet, and stepped into that 2RW vacancy. His 2 year extension was an absolute bargain. That being said, looking at the Jets cap space heading into next season, it looks great! Lowry and Perrault can walk into free agency for all I care, and Stats will be looking closer to a 1 year deal around 4M. So... with 30M in cap space heading into next season, Samberg/Heinola/Perfetti likely all ready and cheap, the Jets can finally address that issue on D, and have more than enough cap space to do so.

He needs to win a couple rounds or it’s time for Hendricks, IMO.

Yeah so add Ovechkin to the list, doesn't change anything.

You and I have different opinions about this trade and that is okay. Time will prove that I am right and you will be the first guy at Portage and Main celebrating the cup win.

Furthermore statistically speaking, Laine had the worst advanced stats on the team and that was while playing with Mark Scheifele for the majority of last season.

To your first point.

They will find someone really good, a friend told me that Hamilton is a UFA next season.

Roslovic is an intriguing part of this trade. I am curious to see how he develops in Columbus. He will be the ultimate indictment on Maurice’s coaching. Torts already has him pegged as a Center on the team and it will be interesting to see how he plays there. Also of note: Roslovic was the last piece remaining from the Evander Kane deal.

Oh yeah, so when every single person including Laine haters say he had his best season defensively when the analytics say he had his worst season analytically then what does that say about advanced stats?

I do know Laine, Scheifele and Connor were all headed for the best seasons in their careers till they were split up.

Laine-Domi-Bjorkstrand would utterly rag doll almost any top line an nhl team can put together.

-Laine is Shoot: The Musical
- Domi is a very, very high level playmaker. He’ll create a ton of scoring chances for Laine.
- Bjorkstrand is an elite winger who drives play AND defends well. He’s a perfect puck pusher for the other two, while making sure the defence doesn’t suffer.

The same Domi that got beaten out by Kotkaniemi and Suzuki last year? Those two players made him expendable in Montreal.

Laine was not defensively as bad as he was in previous seasons. No one said that he suddenly started playing at Selke level status.

To your second point: sure but do you want to have half your salary cap being taken up by wingers? Wing is the easiest position to develop and replace. Unless your name is Ovechkin, P. Kane, Kucherov, Panarin or Mark Stone, you are essentially replaceable on the wing. Looking at the 5 wingers I mentioned, 2 out of the 5 have been traded.

Never said he was a Selke winner, you said Laine was bad according to analytics so I gave an example of how analytics can be misleading or essentially useless data sometimes.

If it's a winger of Laine's caliber then yes, he's a game breaking winger, trading him was a massive mistake, just cause two of those wingers you referenced were traded means that they should of been traded.

I consider someone that is a game breaker as someone that is a positive line driver, something that Laine was not, as all the date points to him as being a passenger on every line he has ever been on. Hockey people say that Laine’s defensive game improved, he essentially went from being a 40 Corsi to a 45 Corsi player. That does not mean he bed=came some sort of defensive wizard.

Again we have differing opinions. Center is the most difficult position to develop, especially first line center. I am excited for Dubois.

Laine is essentially Rick Nash v 2.0 and ironically he’s joining the team that Nash played on.

Laine with one shot can break a game open, he's a game breaker.

Dubois was a 1C on a team with poor centers, he's a 2C.

Good, he'll be our 2C so that will be perfect! Thankfully we have a number of other "gamebreakers".

Well, 1 is a number, but I was thinking we had 2 or 3 others. Laine will be missed, no doubt, but I think our team is better today than yesterday.
