There was a huge uproar by Hockeybuzz Leafs Nation when he signed that contract.
- dmnted

There was some hate by a select few here just a few months ago.

Some people seem to have chosen to latch onto him for their personal anger outlets...but hey he’s shut them up big time

My favourite part of that narrative was how Nylander somehow had Dubas over-a-barrel. That the Leafs somehow caved at the last minute.

So, so dumb.

- mjones242

Yeah that never made sense. Nylander asks for the Drasaitl deal of 8.5 per, lowers to 6.9 when HE calls Dubas in the last hour, but Dubas ?"ent over" and "Caved".

WTF?
And not long after that deal I saw people claiming Clayton Keller's 7.15 per was "A steal" by Chayka.

The Islanders over-achieved in a very weird playoff year. It happens on occasion even in non-weird years.
- mjones242

I don’t take the islanders seriously.

Not with that roster and until the day that they can show me I am wrong and win a cup, I will continue to believe it.

While I agree that based on their talent/roster they have overachieved recently, thats partly due to their coaching which has been excellent by Trotz.

Will they likely fall hard in the next couple years? Absolutely unless they make some big trades. They also have some good prospects that could really help.

Saved all the way to the conference finals?

- Scabeh

They lost 7 in a row prior to the NHl shutting down. They were headed for missing the playoffs.

If you want to judge everything by the past and 'winning rounds", fine. They now look like that team that lost 7 ina row.

Noah Dobson is getting more icetime this year.

That guy is gonna be very good for them for a looooong time.

And Lee, Nelson., Pageau, Eberle, Martin will get worse.

33 million locked into Lee, Nelson, Pageau, Eberle, Komorov, Varlamov is not good at all.

But 4 forwards 40 million amiright.

They can't score. Every game is a shutout they play in. And the 3-2 record is with spectacular goaltending numbers.

Yup. The cognitive dissonance is staggering when it comes to the Leafs vs. everyone else.

But I mean they look like they lost the last 7 games in a row. They are clearly 0-5 this year, you should look again.

I told you a few days ago. These stats are misleading you.

Carey's been fine, made some big saves when he needed to.

I'm glad we have him.

Looks up Habs record...Oh Ok. Price has been beter then the numbers likely. Would I like him with that contract, no. Will he get worse as it goes along, ofcourse.

Right now he's still a good goaltender however.

I love how the 4 forwards, 40 millioon (All stars, all amongst NHl leaders) is the biggest NHL cap issue but the Canucks wasting 30+ million on garbage is ok.

Double standard bullpoop

What does that prove? What if they don't keep outscoring his crappy golatending?

I'm sure Dubas would hear it if his 10.5 per 33 year-old goalie with 6 years left had those stats..

Yup.

I do think the Leafs would be best served balancing that 40M with some of it going to a defender, but yeah, the double-standards are hilarious.

I'm going to start using this as my go to defense for any players where the stats say something different than my feels.

While I know what you are saying, using stats so early in the season can be misleading.

If he still has those stats through Feb im sure well be having a different conversation.

I think the issue is people oddly view a 4th liner getting 3-4 million per as "Not too bad" because it's not a big number like 10 million. But if you have several of those, you can't move them and it's far worse than any 1st liner being "Overpaid".

Marner makes 10.9? Terible! Wait...Luongo, Brandon Sutter and Jay Beagle make the same..
