What does that prove? What if they don't keep outscoring his crappy golatending?

I'm sure Dubas would hear it if his 10.5 per 33 year-old goalie with 6 years left had those stats..

I was just reminiscing about how man people said Kopitar was done after his 52 point season in 16-17

That was fun

It's all the coach, Best in the NHL. But even he can't score goalsd.
- RogerRoeper

Man, hope the Leafs get one of these magic coaches that win the games all by themselves...we’ve got the bank, should just sign 1 of them, doesn’t even go against the cap.

I know but we’re going around the same circle jerk debate. Lou left Dubas a team with certain obvious assets and some real constraints. They’ve both had a few years to put their own stamps on their teams.

Lou seems determined to build a team of $5-6M players. Dubas is going with 4 big guns, a few $5M guys and then rotating in league minimum UFA s. The flat cap hurts Dubas more than Lou but I think (as objectively as I can make myself) I prefer where Dubas has landed.

His problem going forward will be signing one of Freddie (probably) or Hyman next year. I think it’s easier to find a cheaper if not as good version of Hyman than it will be will be for Lou to bring in high end talent.

(There, I answered my own question.)

That's a fair point of view.

It worked for a few years for Chicago. but quality depth also has value.

I don't hate the idea of having plenty of 5-6M players, but these contracts must not be given to overrated plugs.... or you get a Eriksson contract that prevents you from keeping your #1 goaltender or your first line winger.

Canucks could use a shakeup.

I just don’t like Simmonds on the 3rd line the next month.

Engvall has shown glimpses but we could use him on that 4th line to keep it afloat.

Sandin and Lehtonen need to play.

From teams that are rumoured to be looking for a D...Blueger and Gaudett are my targets.

- Santo_44

What about something sorta like Pearson (retained), and Olli Juolevi for Engvall, Dermott?

I think the economics allow you to bring in decent guys in league minimums these days. Look at the players who signed PTOs.

Put your big money in skill. That’s always going to be the rare commodity

Yeah the flat cap has created opportunities to get very solid NHL players on the cheap.

Corey Perry looked great in his first game with the Habs.

Still gives the dirty elbows.

We'll have to wait and see what is the best approach is.. It could end up hurting Dubas and the Leafs more, if they have to lose guys like Rielly.

Maybe the flat cap helps the Leafs keep his salary a little lower and they can keep him without trading other assets?

One way would be to roll the dice on cheap goaltenders and lose Freddy.... which is pretty damn risky imo.

He's still gonna cost a ton imo.

Juolevi is a bust..

I can see the Leafs targeting someone like Jared McCann out of Pittsburgh..

Nylander sat out until approx 2 hours before signing deadline.
that wasn't a 'fuss about nothing'.
Dubois clip of his no-effort shift? Can get 10 of those from last season by Nylander..

I hope he signs for $6.5M per season on a 5 year deal. I think we can afford that, but it means Andersen is likely gone..
