I hope he signs for $6.5M per season on a 5 year deal. I think we can afford that, but it means Andersen is likely gone..

The Torey Krug contract eh?

That'd be a good deal for the Leafs imo.

Engvall looked really good yesterday, and should definitely stay in.
He's earned his spot after a good season, good pre-playoffs last season.

Simmonds is a disappointment to me so far, but who knows - I still hope he can be better.
Kerfoot is not looking at all like last season's Kerfoot-- one of the best FWs so far.
Mikheyev and in particular Hyman looking great as well so far this season.

Marner-Matthews-Tavares-Nylander -- for all the points they are getting, still not playing at elite level... Guess that's good news, since still lots of space to be much better.

Just saw that the Lightning didn't travel to Carolina, and their 2 games this week are cancelled/rescheduled.

I can't remember whose column I was reading on the weekend, but they had interviewed Daly, and he basically said that the NHL hasn't worked out what system they will use to determine final standings, should some teams not be able to play 56 games.

Only the franking NHL would put themselves in this position.

Now, no matter what happens, they will be accused of favouring one team over the other.

Well if they managed to put the Habs in the playoffs last year, they can do anything!

Which means that some team(s) who are not deserving will be given a playoff shot, despite not earning one, just like last year.

Also; having the Rangers in the round-robin and still pick the magic ball in the lottery

Simmonds can still be decent i hope. I wasn't happy with his signing as I figured he was done anyway.

I like Big Joe better for half the money.

Hasn’t Laffy been meh?

Mcdavid, Matthews really put unfair expectations on 1st overall picks.

Simmonds does Cliffords job but can still score and carry the puck decently. For the extra 500K I am happy.

Juolevi is a bust..

I can see the Leafs targeting someone like Jared McCann out of Pittsburgh..

Sometimes prospects need a change of scenery, but I agree. Pearson could be a player that could work is what I was getting at.

What about something sorta like Pearson (retained), and Olli Juolevi for Engvall, Dermott?

Van has one of the worst cap situations in the league, they aren’t retaining salary.

Sure. Your pov is valid but I think the 500k is worth more somewhere else.

end of the day though the big guys need to get the job done more than Simmonds.

The cap would essentially be even in that scenario with the retaining, but I do tend to agree with you.

Pearson would be good too.. I have a feeling that Dubas and the Leafs are targeting centers and not wingers.. McCann can play C.

I think you’re right. Laffy’s been given enough time, it isn’t working, right?

I think Simmonds has been decent. Glad we signed him, and I think he can give even more still. For what he is getting paid I think its a good contract.

He won't do anything.
He's a guy that just makes 2 low-risk changes during the off-season, and then calls it a day.
Dubas' main objective is for Kyle Dubas to stay as long as possible Leafs' GM -- not for the Leafs to win as many Stanley Cups as possible during next 10 years.
