Does this mean the Leafs suck because we couldn't beat them in regulation time?
- Atomic Wedgie

Leafs do suck, but the Leafs suck less than the Habs.

I know, it over $6M in cap to bring both in, but if it something that could work out for both sides, I think the Leafs could make it work.

It wouldn't need to be Brodie.. The cap difference is roughly $4M.

Those are 2 guys I would try to go after.

- PatC80

4M plus more because Dubas already stated he wants cap flexibility to accumulate cap space for the TDL

Honest question, when did interference stop being a penalty?

Every single game there's an insane amount of interference not being called.

Leafs can't add cap hit. Has to be a 700K-1M player coming back.
- Santo_44

If you trade Dermott+Engvall for example that can free up cap. Theyd need to add for cap retainment possibly. Its possible.

Pass....

I mean what if he wants to play with Matthews again?

- PatC80

I've been trying to think of what this supposed "trade" could really be. They were looking for someone who could step in and help replace Thornton's minutes on the first line? Dermott would be the trade bait? How many first line players can be had for $900k that would be acquired for Travis Dermott? Did Peter Chiarelli get a job again?

In my thinking, they might be looking for a centre so they could bump someone like a Kerfoot into the top line wing role? But they already have Travis Boyd who would make a pretty decent 3rd line centre, so why look outside?

It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

They have to then replace those players.

If they replace both of those players with 700K players then they would gain around 600-700K in cap space.

If Dubas adds any forward it'll most likely be a 700k-1m player coming in. We know Dubas wants to accumulate cap space.

Travis Boyd is a replacement level player, no where near a 3rd line C option.

Leafs have plenty of Travis Boyds...the 4th line will be decent for the rest of the year even with injuries.

They don't have much playing room with the top 9 right now. They need a skilled guy that can come in and play up and down the lineup.

Ennis is an option. I mentioned Guadette and Blueger

I would keep Dermott and Engvall

Give Joey Anderson a chance for a couple of games to see what he brings to the table

At some point, we need to see if we have internal replacements for Hyman
(stupid penalties) 🤨

Korshkov should also be on the team next year

We all could and would have signed Tavares.

Getting rid of Babcock wasn't a good thing - it was a very bad thing.
He got rid of Babcock to gather more 'Dubas in-crowd' around him.
Imo, it would have been better to keep Babcock and to get rid of players that have too weak of a character to follow Babs' directions - even if that was Matthews.
It's quite a sign that character guys (Rielly, Hyman, others) were ok with Babs.
Matthews demanding not to be put on a line with Hyman imo is a very bad sign re Matthews' character.
I'm really hoping on Torts as the next Leafs coach - that's not happening with Dubas there as a GM though.

The problem with those players is right now they both just offer 4th line roles.

Engvall has been good his past 2 games but we have seen how quickly he disappears, an athletic article quoted a past coach of his saying in order for him to play well he needs constant motivation...if he is the only option for the top 9 right now how quickly will that motivation disappear?
