If not for the Oilers getting 17 lucky bounces, the Leafs could be 6-1, but yeah.. We need to blow it up. Dubas sucks
- PatC80

If we were 6-1 I certainly wouldn't be calling for Dubas's head.

But 5-2?

A bridge too far! Burn it down indeed!

If trading Dermott brings back a player who can make an impact - whether it's a better RHD or a gritty forward - you make the trade and be damned with the D depth.

We have Lehtonen, Sandin, Liljegren, Rosen, and... Marincin. That's plenty of bottom 6 d-men and I don't think retaining Dermott moves the needle much.

- mjones242

I think the second sentence is the reason the first sentence can't happen.

If Dermott is the type of player who doesn't move the needle much, he's not bringing back a player who's going to make an impact. Especially considering the dollar in/out aspect of any transaction. We're probably better off giving him a chance to increase his value, because right now what is he worth? A 3rd?

What Travis Boyd brings is that he's a centre, which gives you some versatility there and his value is that he's already here.

I'm not to argue it too fervently because there's not a lot of difference in here, but Boyd = Gaudette = Blueger. Some are better at some things and some are better at others, but all three are tweeners to some extent. Gaudette is the youngest, I think, so he may have room to develop yet.

If they are looking for something that helps, they're not really getting it by giving up Dermott with the cap space available was the point I was trying to make. Given those constraints, I'd be looking internally.

Wonder if it is a case of Keefe/Dubas not yet trusting Boyd?
I don't think you'll get much for Dermott, because of his role and cap hit, but it may be a necessary move.. I think if they could do it by promoting from within, there wouldn't be rumors about the Leafs interest in forward help.

That production is meh for a player of his talent, and salary.

The entire team needs to cowboy-up in the playoffs, and that includes Matthews.

- Aetherial

Matthews was excellent and one of the few bright spots against Columbus.

Having said that, the offense - minus AM34 - was smothered by CBJ and the Leafs couldn't figure out how to crack the Torts code.

Coach Keefe needs to figure out how to win those grinding, trapesque playoff style games. Early days yet but I'm thinking the Leafs are embracing some of that mentality this season...

I still can't decide whether I like them or hate them. They sure are different.

It's like the GAP designed them or something.

Can they just bring back the 80s jersey and be done with it?

Dermott+ for a needle-mover shouldn't be outside the realm of possibility. The return could simply be a 4th line energy player who elevates that line.

He's not going to increase his value playing 11+ mins a night so I'm thinking you move him sooner rather than later.

Hold on, didnt the Habs trade Galchenyuk for Domi? There are always teams who think they can make more out of a player.

Dermott isnt crap or something, he just isnt what the Leafs need right now. A young team might see him as a piece who can grow his game with them.

But that’s the whole point of the trade. Move him for somebody much, much better. This isn’t complicated.

Habs traded Galchenyuk at the best possible time before he completed his self-destruction.

Just like they traded Domi afterwards at the right time.

For the mistakes Bergevin might have done over the years, guy usually wins his trades.

Dominion Voting Systems has filed a $1.3 billion lawsuit against former President Trump's attorney Rudy Giuliani, accusing him of peddling "demonstrably false” allegations that resulted in harassment and death threats for employees.

So Rudy is going to have to dig pretty deep into his pants to find that kind of coin

I have a feeling that Domi will putter along and have a couple bad seasons and end up with the Leafs

It will be interesting to see how the suits progress.

You would have to think the baseless allegations make them liable, but will they be able to show damages, or is that even required?

I just think it is bizarre that these lawyers and politicians can just say stuff that is potentially damaging and certainly misleading to voters. I can't believe that freedom of speech covers this.
