But is he a number one centre? Bozak was a number.... nope, I can’t do it.
- Canada Cup

Neither are number ones.

Ideally, Danault is a ok 2nd line centre or an amazing third line centre.

But he's also great at faceoffs, on the PK and has amazing chemistry but Gallagher and Tatar which is showed by their amazing results at 5 on 5.

I love him, but if he wants anything more than the 5M per season already offered, he'll leave at the end of the year.

To be fair, Bergeron wasn't elite 2-way Bergeron until he hit a stride around 24-25.

Not sure if PLD has the potential to reach that level, but yes, Bergeron-Lite I think is well within reach.

Perhaps Ryan O'Reilly would have been a more apt comparison?

- mjones242

I think PLD has very good potential - O'Reilly - maybe we'll see. Laine is a really good player. I like the return Columbus got in this situation. They were forced to make a move (or to fire Tortellini) and suffer the consequences. Laine is an elite goal scorer, he has great size and skill, and has a chance to be as good maybe better than OV. CBJ also received another first rounder, a center that is now playing for his home town. Big factor on rating this deal will be the ability to retain these players. I think both teams will have difficulty with this. Roslovic would probably re-sign and might be a future CBJ captain and 2nd or 3rd line center. Add also that he Jets retained salary and the deal looks pretty good for CBJ.

PLD no way is in the Bergeron O'Reilly category.
More of a Matt Stajan // Ryan Kesler type of guy.

He’s better 5 on 5. Winnipeg gains there but loses big time on their PP

I think the lesson we have learned today is to stop using players as comparables

Considering he was a 3/4 C I would agree.

Stajan: 0.413PPG over his career

PLD: 0.665PPG over his career and he’s still only 22

So yeah, safe to say PLD is a better player

PLD is signed one year beyond this season. Laine is an RFA after this season. What are the chances of either of these players signing long term with these teams? Might be the biggest factor in rating this deal.

2/3 C.

any case - maybe the Kesler comparison is better.

Columbus fleeced the Jets here - they got a top NHL scorer for a 2C with character issues.
Laine will do fine now he finally can be the star on a team - I expect he'll end up with Texier and Foudy on the topline eventually (next season) -- should be a fun line to watch.
I'm rooting for Laine, Torts and CBJ here - really hope things will work out well for them.

For PLD it will depend on if he likes the direction of the team and for Laine it’s going to depend a lot on his relationship with Torts imo

Jarmo Kekalainen would probably be appealing as a manager for Laine, and obviously vice versa.

Dubois' father works in the Jets organization as an Assistant Coach of the Manitoba Moose.

I would think in both cases there's a good chance of them trying to make it happen on all sides.

So do you think this is more about Maurice’s and Torts’ job security then?

An “okay we’ve changed up your stars now it’s on you to make it work” kind of message from their respective GMs?

That's interesting about Dubois' father. Still think the Habs will be calling as soon as they can . As for Laine, Kekalainen might be nice at the moment, but Laine has a giant ego - he will want to get paid, history is not on CBJ's side to do this.
