Why ?

I find we are a bit harsh on him, sure you can see the talent is probably more 3rd pairing than 2 nd, but I feel he the kinda guy we lacked, physical presence so that Weber or Chariot dont need to do what he did last game fighting that ostrich and the stay at home qualities seems to complement Petry well, no ?

We're all arm chair GMs and most look at a flat cap on a team that is finally spending to the cap and see the cap hit as a lot for a 3rd pairing stay at home guy. It's not the he isn't useful, he absolutely is and has been great for the Habs outside of the first game, but many think Mete or Fleury could provide similar if not a slight decline in play for a fraction of the price and you have some quality prospects coming that may be squeezed out from NHL experience with him taking a spot on the bottom pairing.

For now I'm choosing to enjoy him and I'll worry about the cap space when the Habs need it, potentially as early as the draft or going to Seattle. Similar situation to Byron really. Useful player but the cap hit makes it an issue that will need addressing

they are probably just pre-approved by the bank and want to officially negotiate and finalize their agreement with the bank before they remove their condition.
